Quiet office assistant job in home office

New York, Albany, 12201 Albany USA
Aplica ya

Two educators/authors are seeking an assistant in their office.

What makes this job great?

- Flexible hours: a total of about 5 to 10 hours per week, divided as you wish between two days or evenings (but not two consecutive days)

- $20 per hour

- Work in a home office in a brownstone in downtown Albany (near the Empire State Plaza).

- Work for people who are progressive, feminist, LGBTQ-friendly.

- Our cats might hang out with you while you work. :-)

- At least some of the time it involves working alone in our office, so you can enjoy the quiet or play your own music while you work.

- Can be compatible with a 9-5 full-time job if you work one weekend day and a couple hours after work one weekday evening.

- Or can be compatible as “moms’ hours” for a parent who wants to work while their kids are in school.

You have what it takes to do this job if you have/are:

- Experience working in an office as an administrative assistant, secretary, or similar job

- Like working on your own

- Super-organized

- Great at keeping track of lots of details

- Reliable

- Hard-working

- Honest

- Trustworthy

- Able to lift boxes of t-shirts

- Excellent computer skills

Your responsibilities would include:

- Packing supplies for speaking engagements

- Assembling publicity packages

- Fulfilling online orders

- Occasional data entry

- Tracking inventory

We are particularly interested in people who have one or more of these experiences:

- have worked in a home office before

- have worked for a very small business before (no more than three employees total)

- have worked as a personal assistant before

- have experience working alone or completely independently

If you have had any of these experiences, please call this to our attention in your cover letter and provide more information in your resume.

This job is not a good match for current college students who are juniors or seniors, or graduate students who expect to earn their degree in 2025 or 2026, as we are seeking to hire someone who has the possibility of staying in the position beyond two years.

The job is also generally not a good match for someone who lives more than 20 minutes from downtown Albany (unless you work in Albany so already have reason to be here each day). Because we sometimes need the office assistant to come in for just an hour of work, it’s not worth the time and gas for someone who lives farther away.

To apply for this job:

1. Email us a resume and a cover letter (in the body of the email) that tells us more about yourself and explains your experience.

2. The subject line of your email must be "office assistant job" to be sure we can find it easily in our email.

Note: This job was first posted on Thursday, July 31 we will continue to accept resumes throughout through at least August 5th. If you are reading this prior to August 6th, you do not need to email to confirm the position is still open just go ahead and apply!
