We have an opportunity for a passionate and innovative sustainability expert to join our team. You will be part of a team that are focused on values such as kaitiakitanga, whanaungatanga and manaaki. These values guide the decisions we make and the impact they have on the natural resources and communities that we impact.

This role comes with many different facets and opportunities, so we promise that no two days will be the same. You will have the opportunity to flex your expertise in your craft while learning lots of new things we are working on to strengthen our place in the Energy sector. In particular you will have a focus across:

  1. Supporting the business to maintain a robust understanding of environmental, social, cultural and economic factors that impact on Contact’s ability to sustainably operate now and in the future.
  2. Co-ordinatingour ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and sustainability reporting.
  3. Leading the development of appropriate management processes, policies, measurement tools that support Contact to appropriately manage and deliver on its sustainability objectives.
  4. Creating a culture that embeds sustainability across all of our sites
  5. Deliver initiatives and key programmes such as our annual Maori internship programme, materiality review, annual report, biodiversity, climate change
  6. Nuture the implementation of our tangata whenua strategy and support the businessin maintaining meaningful relationships with hapu and iwi.

This is a fixed term role for one year, covering one of our team who is on extended leave.We’re looking for someone who is passionate about sustainability and who can support, lead and influence change within a large organisation.

You’ll have a good knowledge of current sustainability issues and frameworks, and the ability to connect broad goals, values and strategic issues to practical projects and initiatives that we can implement within our business. You’ll also have strong communication and relationship building skills – able to communicate with a range of audiences including tangata whenua.

There aresome specific attributes we are looking for, that you will have plenty of stories and examples to share with the team, including:

  • Experience working in the sustainability field and/or energy sector.
  • A good understanding of New Zealand’s regulatory regime, with a particular focus on environmental and energy related laws.
  • The ability to use, collate, interpret and communicate quantitative and qualitative data to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong thought leadership capabilities, with excellent influencing skills.
  • Understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and a basic knowledge of te reo Maori and tikanga.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in science, law, commerce, arts or an environmental or social discipline.
