Facilities and Maintenance Technician
Objective: The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs upkeep and repairs at all sites operated by St. Elizabeth Shelter. This includes routine preventive maintenance and emergency repairs, as needed, for not only the building and operations of the overall organization but for St. Elizabeth client’s private units as well.
Responsibilities:
Facility Maintenance & Repair
Performs needed repairs, alterations and construction as requested at all St. Elizabeth properties. Service requests are accepted and prioritized by the Business manager in consultation with Program Managers.
Performs walk-thru safety inspections of each program site to identify potential hazards and formulate recommendations for a prioritized repair punch-list after speaking with program manager:
Inspects fire extinguishers in common areas and smoke detectors in all apartments on a yearly basis;
Inspects water heaters and heating furnaces to ensure adequate ventilation and to check for unusual odors (burning or gas odor leaks);
Walks the entire exterior perimeter of all buildings paying close attention to functionality of all exterior lights, fence locks, condition of windows, water drainage off canales, and security of all doors and windows on regular basis.
Coordinates communication with Program Manager to ensure that proper notice has been served to residents before entering any occupied apartments. (In emergency situations, i.e. a fire, notice may be waived and immediate entry is allowed to protect the safety of the residents.)
Assist (if needed) in snow and ice removal from sidewalks by 10 AM on mornings when snow or ice are present.
Purchases maintenance and repair supplies within purchasing guidelines established by Accounting Manager. All receipts are due to the Accounting Manager on a weekly basis.
Stores all tools and supplies in a safe place to protect them from theft or misuse.
Emergency/Crisis Intervention
Technician has access to all apartment keys and is responsible for the safe storage and authorized use of all keys.
Technician is attentive to safety and security issues associated with both vacant and occupied apartments. Technician reports to the Program Manager all incidents of suspected or confirmed trespassing, break-ins, squatting, property damage, vandalism or other issues associated with vacant apartments.
Ensures compliance with St. Elizabeth Shelter safety requirements.
Administrative Tasks
Participates in mandatory all-staff meetings.

Requirements
Credentials/Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess positive interactive skills with special needs populations such as the elderly, mentally ill, physically disabled, or substance abusers.
Must have basic knowledge and skills in electric, plumbing, drywall, painting and roofing. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Must be available for on-call rotation for emergencies.
Experience and Skills
Spanish speaking preferred
Other
Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Willing and able to use personal vehicle for local travel on agency business
Concern for homeless issues

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
