EPS is the only low barrier homeless shelter in Espanola and will reopen for overnight service in October. If you have a desire to help the unhoused and looking to join a strong dedicated team for an organization offering room for growth, please keep reading.

The Shelter offers seasonal overnight services, case management, and essential services. We also work closely with many organizations and community partners throughout Northern New Mexico.

Position: Seeking Direct Care Professionals that:

Are committed to empowering vulnerable populations

Have a deep understanding of the traditions and complexities within the Espanola Valley

Have experience with homelessness, addiction and/or mental health concerns

Are comfortable in a rapidly changing environment

Are eager to learn and grow with us

This position is the bedrock of the EPS mission, which is to prevent homelessness and to provide our homeless community with access to viable pathways toward a more productive life. We are not here to judge; we are here to serve. We serve with kindness and respect. Our main goal is to provide a safe place to sleep and have access to meals and services. This position directly serves and supervises our guests as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the facility.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintain a clean, and supportive environment

Monitor the facility and all activities to maintain safety

Read, understand, and carry out EPS Policies and Procedure Manual, EPS Guidelines, Code of Ethics and Conduct

Help guests feel welcome

Help guests prevent and/or manage conflict

Assist guests with staying focused on their goals and following through on appointments

Support guests in following and staying accountable to all EPS rules

Attain proper data collections

Perform light administrative functions and meet all deadlines

Make guests aware of all shelter and community resources/programs

Stay current with related trainings and professional development

Attend staff meetings and trainings

Follow specific instructions and direction from Shelter Management

Demonstrate tact, grace, patience, and professionalism in all circumstances

Qualifications:

Ability to maintain clear personal and professional boundaries

Able to follow detailed directions

Experience working with a diverse population, with sensitivity to differences in culture, religion, sexual orientation, race, age, and physical disabilities and illnesses, and mental health challenges

Experience recognizing and dealing with those under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs

Experience recognizing and managing mood shifts and escalating behavior

Demonstrate ability to respond responsibly and calmly to emergency and crisis situations

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to spontaneously flex your communication style to genuinely approach and accommodate shelter guests, staff, community leaders, etc.

Ability to complete accurate reports in a timely fashion both written and on the computer

At least 1 year sobriety and commitment to being clean and sober while working at EPS

Willingness to participate in random drug testing

Experience:

Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED

Minimum 1 year in service with homeless and/or individuals with substance abuse

Homeless Shelter: 1 year (Preferred)

Basic Computer Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel

The work location is at 628 N. Riverside Drive, Espanola, NM 87532. English/Spanish speaker preferred. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Paid bi-weekly.

Schedule & Compensation:

Part time: 8–12 hour shifts, evenings & overnights, $17.00 per hour
