Santa Fe Birth Center’s mission is to provide a safe, satisfying birth choice for women who wish to be attended through birth’s physiological process by practitioners who are knowledgeable and skilled in techniques facilitating healthy births.

The Birth Center’s warm physical environment in a beautifully renovated adobe home has two clinic rooms, an administrative office, two birth rooms with soaking tubs, a walled garden, a kitchen/dining room for clients and staff to prepare meals, and a living/reception/library.

Position Overview:

Santa Fe Birth Center is seeking a dedicated and passionate Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Licensed Midwife (LM), or Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide full-scope midwifery care, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care. She will be working in collaboration with other healthcare professionals and the Administrative Director to ensure the highest standards of care and safety for our clients.

Our ideal candidate is a compassionate, confident, enterprising, collegial midwife who trusts birth’s physiological process. She enjoys working collaboratively as well as independently. She has excellent communication skills, and takes pleasure promoting family centered, culturally sensitive care in Santa Fe’s diverse community.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive midwifery care to low-risk clients throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period.

Conduct prenatal visits, assess fetal and maternal health, and provide education and counseling to expectant parents.

Manage labor, delivery, and postpartum care in the birth center setting.

Offer postpartum support, including breastfeeding assistance and newborn care.

Develop individualized care plans, maintaining a holistic and evidence-based approach.

Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 care for birth center clients.

Collaborate with our team to ensure the best outcomes and care for our clients.

Perform and interpret routine lab tests and order diagnostic ultrasounds as needed.

Handle emergency situations and initiate transfer to hospital-based care if necessary.

Advocate for patients and offer culturally competent care, especially in underserved and minority communities.

Qualifications:

Active CNM, LM, or CPM license in the state of New Mexico.

Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Basic Life Support (BLS).

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a birth center, home birth, or similar setting (preferred but not required).

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Familiarity with billing and documentation requirements is a plus.

Experience with Client Care is a plus.

Ability to work as a team.
