Medical researcher needed to assist woman with multiple complex and rare medical conditions.
The ideal candidate is trustworthy and reliable, with strong research skills, medical language literacy, and in-depth familiarity with both mainstream and alternative medicines. They are someone with a “leave no stone unturned” mentality who will ask appropriate questions to streamline research and communicate well with clear formatting and grammar, primarily via email.
Qualifications:
Internet savvy with strong research skills
Health literacy and familiarity with medical terminology is vital. This includes both mainstream and alternative medicines, with alternative medicine spanning: chiropractic, integrative/functional medicine, Chinese medicine, etc.
Strong comprehension and communication skills (especially written)
Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail
Must understand and adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy and confidentiality
Must disclose any potential conflicts of interest related to their research or recommendations
Ideal, but not required– Lyme-literate, familiarity with EDS/MCAS, mold illness, and/or other research areas listed below
Scope of Work
Research areas include:
Vascular Compression Syndromes, Dentures, Cerebrospinal Fluid Leaks, Pain Management and Anesthesia Options, Infectious Disease, Environmental Disease (e.g. chemical and electromagnetic hypersensitivity), and more
Responsibilities:
Read, distill, organize, and clearly communicate information regarding:
o Criteria for diagnosis
o Allopathic and alternative interventions
o Best specialists including surgeons, doctors, and “alternative” practitioners
o Comparison of treatment options
Identify and share critical sources of information (in US & abroad), such as:
o Patient Forums
o Academic articles
o Reputable medical center websites
o Mainstream Medicine as well as Functional/Alternative Options
Communicate results via email (occasional zoom calls can be considered)
Respond to follow up questions and provide further clarification as needed
Logistics & Compensation
Candidates must successfully complete a paid trial project before hiring to ensure a good fit for both sides.
The position requires at least 5hrs of availability per week, including both research and communication. While some weeks may offer more or less hours, the position guarantees at least 20 hrs per month.
It is possible there could be up to 15 hrs of work per week at times, especially if the researcher is available for additional non-medical projects.
Beyond some mutually agreed upon deadlines and check ins, days/times worked will be flexible.
Compensation starts at $30/hour, and may be adjusted upwards depending upon the candidate’s qualifications and skill.
The position will be reviewed after three months of service.
