Full Time Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician (MLT)

Rio Grande Staffing has a unique opportunity to bring aboard a team of Lab Technologists and Technicians. We are one of New Mexico's longest standing medical staffing agencies and are happy to be expanding.

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Medical Laboratory Technologists/Technicians (MLTs)

for a contract position at the Santa Fe Indian Health Center. The successful candidate will perform a

broad range of laboratory tests and procedures, maintain equipment, ensure quality control, and

adhere to strict safety and regulatory standards. This is a full-time position with the potential for

long-term extension.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

● Perform a wide range of laboratory tests: Chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis,

coagulation, and microbiology (e.g., CBCs, urinalyses, chemistries, cultures). Proficiency with

automated and manual equipment is required.

● Expert Phlebotomy: Collect blood specimens from diverse patient populations (infants to

geriatrics) using various techniques.

● Maintain Equipment & Quality: Perform preventative maintenance, quality control procedures,

troubleshoot issues, and conduct calibration/comparison studies. Maintain a clean and

organized lab.

● Specimen Management & Reporting: Properly handle specimens, accurately report results

(including critical values) via RPMS and other systems.

● Adhere to Safety & Regulations: Follow Universal Precautions, infection control policies, and

all relevant safety and regulatory guidelines (CMS, AAAHC, COLA, CLIA, IHS).

● Maintain Accurate Records: Keep detailed and accurate patient records, reporting

discrepancies promptly. Contribute to performance improvement.

● Collaborate Effectively: Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and administrative staff;

maintain professional communication with patients.

● Troubleshooting & Correction: Identify and resolve technical issues impacting test results;

implement appropriate corrective actions.

● Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on all applicable federal, state, local, and IHS

regulations.

● Professional Development: Complete mandatory training programs (Child Sexual Abuse

Prevention, Trauma-Informed Care, ISSA).

● Multilingual Proficiency: May require working with interpreters for non-English speaking

patients.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a

related field.

● ASCP, AMT, AAB, or equivalent certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab

Scientist.

● Minimum two years of experience as a medical laboratory technologist performing

high-complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis.

● Proficiency in using laboratory information systems (e.g., RPMS) and maintaining laboratory

equipment.

● Excellent phlebotomy skills and experience working with diverse patient populations.

● Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

● Demonstrated ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accuracy and precision.

Additional Requirements:

● Must successfully complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting (Level I and

Level II background checks).

● Must provide documentation demonstrating immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella,

hepatitis B, and influenza, and potentially other immunizations as required. TB testing may

be required.

● Must be authorized to work in the United States.
