Part-time Visual Arts Teacher (Grades 5th-8th)
Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences, an expeditionary learning school, seeks a part-time innovative, dynamic, collaborative Visual Art teacher with a strong background in working with children and teaching elementary and middle school students for the 2025-26 school year.
We are especially interested in candidates who are mindful and enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary connections to support student’s social and emotional development and needs and honor our commitment to equity and inclusivity. The Art teacher will work in partnership with the classroom teachers and look for ways to integrate art into other content areas.
The successful candidate will understand the developmental needs of children and adolescents (ages 10-14) and combine their knowledge of visual arts with humor, energy, and a desire to inspire all children. They will model and promote the school’s character traits of respect, trust, courage, honesty, compassion, and stewardship. Our school upholds the values of diversity and inclusivity, and the successful candidate can create a safe and nurturing learning environment in which all students are respected. Additionally, the candidate must be flexible and an excellent communicator and collaborator. A deep commitment to the academic and social/emotional growth of students is essential.
The Art teacher will teach two classes: 1 section of middle school visual art and 1 section of 5th/6th grade visual art. This is a part-time position totaling approximately 3 hours of class teaching and 1 hour of planning time per week, with additional hours available if interested.

Qualifications and Attributes
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Visual Arts Education, or a related field
Experience working with upper elementary and middle school students
A passion for teaching and working with children
Ability to design hands-on, experiential learning activities that advance learning and present real-life opportunities
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate and work with a team
Commitment to diversity and inclusivity
Strong work ethic
Willingness to learn and improve professionally
Sound judgment and emotional maturity
Willingness to engage in the Arts & Sciences community
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop curriculum and activities that are aligned with the school’s academic standards, mission, and vision
Create, maintain, and promote a safe, nurturing learning environment that responds to students’ academic, social, and emotional growth
Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students
Teach required weekly classes
Create projects entered in the annual Recycle Santa Fe Art Festival (Nov)
Communicate effectively, clearly, and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues
Plan and initiate field trips and extracurricular activities
Attend occasional staff and divisional meetings, workshops, and conferences
Professional Development
Teachers at Arts & Sciences develop a culture where professional development is expected and embedded in the daily fabric of our school. Professional development includes large group presentations, grade level or team meetings, workshops, peer observations, team teaching, and offsite institutes and workshops.
