BlueScope is an Australian-born global success story spanning 15 countries. Our team of over 16,500 people is our strength and we want our people to be safe, successful and well. We’re leaders and innovators in transforming steel into smart products and solutions that support society, today and in the future.  Under the Project Management of BlueScope; Rio Tinto, BHP and Woodside Energy have partnered together to form Project NeoSmelt. Our intention is to develop Australia’s largest ironmaking Electric Smelting Furnace (ESF) pilot plant, situated in Kwinana Industrial Area, south of Perth.  About the Project  The groundbreaking project combines the expertise of the joint venture partners to test technology to enable the use of Pilbara iron ore to produce molten iron using direct reduced iron (DRI)-ESF technology, as the companies come together to try to accelerate the decarbonisation of steelmaking. Excitingly, Project NeoSmelt has the potential to open a pathway to near-zero emissions steelmaking! With the added benefit of using Pilbara iron ore to ensure the longevity of the iron ore and steel industry, while contributing to a de-carbonised steel making process.  The pilot plant aims to prove Pilbara iron ore can be used to produce lower-carbon emissions molten iron and subject to funding, we anticipate a decision to enter feasibility studies in Q2 2025, targeting final investment decision for the pilot plant in 2026, with operations expected to begin in 2028.   The Opportunity  Our project is looking for a Lead Process Engineer to join our team based in Kwinana, WA initially on a fixed-term contract.
