What You Will DoThe Metrology Program and Calibration Laboratory is looking for an early/mid-career Metrology Quality Engineer with experience working to ISO/IEC 17025 requirements in a calibration laboratory setting. As the successful candidate you will assist with the authorization and oversight of the User Performed Calibration program for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) customers with the responsibilities of assuring these programs meet ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, providing technical and quality support for implementation, serve as the Indysoft administrator, and perform periodic assessments of these programs in accordance to policy requirements. Additionally, you will assist with the implementation and maintenance of suppliers on the Institutional Evaluated Suppliers List (IESL), as well as serve as the liaison between the Metrology Program & Calibration Laboratory (MPCL) and customers to drive improvements and assist with increasing calibration capabilities. The successful candidate will also collaborate closely with senior metrology staff, engineers, and management to support organizational goals.We enjoy a diverse and collegial work environment focused on providing exceptional metrology support to the Los Alamos National Laboratory.The ideal candidate will have experience in maintaining an ISO/IEC 17025 compliant quality program in a metrology laboratory environment, with a deep understanding of metrology principles, concepts, and theories. You will be responsible for ensuring that user performed calibrations (UPCs) at LANL are performed in accordance with controlled procedures. Additionally, you will ensure calibrations performed by approved subcontractors, as listed on the IESL, meet quality and technical requirements. You will also initiate and support continuous improvement activities to ensure effective, efficient, and compliant operations. The ability to mentor and work collaboratively is essential.This position will be filled at either the Quality Engineer 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.Metrology Engineer 2 ($92,300 - $151,100)You will apply your knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 calibration laboratory requirements to include metrology quality and technical metrology principles, theories, concepts and techniques to lead efforts in ensuring internal customers, as well as external suppliers, are meeting requirements. Provide guidance to ensure seamless integration and application of quality and technical requirements. Recommend compliant solutions to calibration operational challenges necessary to provide excellent customer service. Collaboratively support engineering activities to ensure metrology operations, capabilities, and capacities in the metrology laboratory.Metrology Engineer 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)At this level, the incumbent will possess experience in metrology and comprehensive knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements. They will demonstrate the ability to independently lead quality activities, including Accreditation Body (AB) audit preparation and the implementation of metrology quality management systems that ensure compliance with technical requirements. Additionally, they will spearhead project management efforts and collaborate with team members to ensure the timely completion of milestones and deliverables.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:

Knowledge and experience working to ISO/IEC 17025 requirements in a calibration laboratory environment;

Demonstrated experience in reviewing supplier quality documents and scopes of accreditation for implementation to the IESL.

Demonstrated experience in working with customers and providing guidance on technical and quality requirements for measuring and test equipment.

Knowledge of calibration system/equipment operations and maintenance.

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to obtain a DOE "Q" Clearance, which normally requires U.S. Citizenship.

Additional Job Requirements for Metrology Engineer 3:In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Experience with project management concepts and implementation.

Demonstrated experience in providing solutions to a diverse range of calibration challenges.

Experience preparing for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation audits.

Knowledge of metrology quality assurance and metrology principles and concepts.

Advanced knowledge of IndySoft Laboratory Information Management System.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, QE / Quality Assurance (QA), or Industrial Systems Engineering or a related field and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, QE or Industrial Systems Engineering or a related field and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Desired Qualifications:

Advanced knowledge of JIRA Issue & Project Tracking Software

Knowledge of preparation for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and/or implementing an ISO/IEC 17025 calibration laboratory quality program.

Demonstrated participation in ISO/IEC 17025 assessments.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
