What You Will DoThe Pit Technologies (PT) Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory is the operational group at the forefront of plutonium pit manufacturing and surveillance, which enable the modernization and continued stewardship of the United States' thermonuclear weapons stockpile. This position is assigned to the Tooling Design Team within the Engineering and Product Support Group (PT-5) of PT Division. The team provides design and configuration management services for the tooling that enables all aspects of the division's diverse mission set, which includes manufacturing 30 plutonium pits per year by 2026, surveilling pits in the stockpile stewardship program, and other national security missions.Engineering Technologist 1 ($83,900 - $136,600)As an Engineering Technologist assigned to the Engineering and Product Support Group you will support the development of tooling and equipment for all Pit Technologies groups and operations and will be responsible for performing all the following activities: tooling design and prototyping, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and process development. You will work closely with other Pit Technologies product engineering, design, and fabrication personnel in a dynamic and collaborative work environment to supply customers with timely and novel tooling designs that are fit for use in a Category 2 nuclear facility.Engineering Technologist 2 ($92,300 - $151,000)In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will be expected to mentor lower-level designers on the principles, theories, concepts, and techniques within relevant engineering disciplines, lead continuous process improvement projects, and complete more challenging or novel design projects with little to no supervision. You will be required to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways, and contribute to the development of the team's goals and objectives.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Computer-aided Design
Basic knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques, CAD modeling and design.
Basic understanding of modeling and drawing drafting principals, application of standards, symbols, notes, GD&T on drawings and models to capture design intent.
Basic understanding of ASME, ANSI, AWS and related industry standards for addressing fit, form and function.
Mechanical/Machining
Basic knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
Basic understanding of engineering, design, and drafting concepts related to a mechanical, electro/mechanical, or electrical disciplines.
Basic knowledge of principles for design, fabrication, assembly and fielding of components and mechanisms
Basic understanding of component and tool design, fixturing, printed circuit boards, schematics, and facility equipment.
Basic understanding of machine shop equipment like a mill, lathe, drill press, welder and inspection equipment.
Basic understanding of engineering materials and their suitability for component design and manufacture.

Experience working in diverse teams, collaborating on novel designs from rough sketches with minimal guidance from a senior level technicians
