What You Will DoThis position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.The Military & Stockpile Operations Office (W-MSO) is looking for an Engineering Technologist (ET) to join our team! As an Engineering Technologist in W-MSO, you will work closely with engineers, technologists, and external stakeholders to support DoD maintenance activities for our nation's nuclear weapons stockpile.Engineering Technologist 1 $81,700 - $133,100You will provide the interface for certain military activities to the LANL weapon system and component groups. As a member of the W-MSO Office, you will interface with Sandia National Laboratories Military Liaison (SNL-ML) Organization to help coordinate Department of Defense (DoD) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) interfaces regarding nuclear weapon fielding and component exchange operations, and issues in support of the US Air Force, US Navy, and UK Trident Program. You will work with members of W-MSO, internal stakeholders, and subject matter experts to coordinate the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) position on resolution of unsatisfactory reports (URs) and updates to, or generation of, DoD related technical publications (TPs). You will represent LANL to external organizations at various military and stockpile related activities. A moderate amount of travel is required due to the programmatic complexity and frequent interactions with SNL-ML, NNSA, Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and DoD customers. You may also be required to help to develop a training program and to train civilian and DoD personnel on weapon operations and topics relevant to the position.Engineering Technologist 2 $90,000 - $147,100In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, as an Engineering Technologist 2, you will contribute to the development of the organization's goals and objectives. You will perform technical research and gather data needed by engineers to solve technical problems and to recommend actions. You will use previous experience and sound judgement to suggest appropriate courses of action to internal stakeholders during resolution of URs and reviews of TPs. You will also determine an approach to solutions, plans, and schedules, and arrange your own activities in accomplishing these objectives.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Weapons ExperienceUnderstanding of the US Nuclear Weapons Enterprise and knowledge of LANL weapon systems, subsystems, and components. Basic knowledge of one or more of the following: nuclear weapon design, development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, surveillance, or limited life component exchange operations as performed by the US Air Force and/or the US Navy.Organization and Resolution of Technical IssuesDemonstrated ability to effectively plan and organize assignments, meet schedules and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects with a range of priorities. Demonstrated ability to identify, address, and resolve technical problems. This position will receive technical and operational direction from designated supervisor or manager and must have the ability to work independently or as part of a team.Communication and FormalityDemonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and personnel, including internal and external customers and stakeholders. Display technical writing skills and overall strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of formality.Additional Job Requirements for the Engineering Technologist 2: At this level, the position requires comprehensive working knowledge of one or more of the following: nuclear weapon design, development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, surveillance, or limited life component exchange operations as performed by the US Air Force and/or the US Navy.Engineering Technologist 1 Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Engineering Technologist 2 Education/Experience: At this level, the position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Desired Qualifications:Candidates selected for this position are most competitive when they also possess the following knowledge and skills:

Knowledge of the Joint Nuclear Weapon Publication System (JNWPS) and the documents contained therein.

Knowledge of weapon systems' mechanical and electrical interfaces, especially as these interfaces relate to limited life component exchange operations as performed by the US Air Force and/or the US Navy.

Experience interacting with NNSA National Laboratories and Production Agencies.

Experience interacting with and presenting to management at LANL, DoD, or other agencies, as well as to NNSA and DTRA.

Experience in establishing a training program and/or providing training to groups of civilians or DoD personnel.

Derivative Classifier (DC) experience.

Active Q clearance.

Additional Desired Requirements for the Engineering Technologist 2:

Working knowledge of the JNWPS and the documents contained therein.

Working knowledge of weapon systems' mechanical and electrical interfaces, especially as these interfaces relate to limited life component exchange operations as performed by the US Air Force and/or the US Navy.

Experience interacting with and presenting to upper-level management at LANL, DoD, or other agencies, as well as to NNSA and DTRA.

Significant experience in establishing a weapons training program and providing weapons-related training to groups of civilians or DoD personnel.
