Purpose and Scope:The Fuels Mechanic installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts pumps, control valves and meters, strainers and filters, water separators, and pipelines of liquid fuel systems for airfields to also include maintaining bulk storage installations and conventional/unconventional refueling systems which are used in fuel storage distribution systems.Essential Responsibilities:

Perform annual preventive maintenance and inspection tasks on the fuel servicing equipment, storage, and dispensing systems.

Perform regular inspections to identify and correct equipment malfunctions, repairs, and replacements.

Inspect, diagnose, and perform major and minor repair work on motors, pumps, hydraulic equipment, compressors, controls, valves, and related equipment.

Applies knowledge of the design, system function, and interrelation of units comprising the system; physical properties and hazards associated with the handling of various types of petroleum fuels, chemicals, and alcohol; pipefitting skills, mechanical skills.

Makes periodic inspections of units to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunction of mechanical units, meters, and gauges, hoses, fuel bladders, such as fuel hydrants, tank pits, distribution lines, storage tanks, turbines, pumps, and control rooms.

Inspects electrical wiring, switches, and controls for safe operating condition, grounding, and adjustment.

Repairs, replaces, and adjusts malfunctioning equipment to restore operating condition specified in regulations and repair manuals.

Disassembles, adjusts, aligns, and calibrates gauges and meters.

Cleans storage tanks and removes and installs old or new equipment such as meter and filter installations, pipe systems, pit covers, and vents, to modify existing installations.

Conducts follow-up inspection of contractor and in-house repairs and maintains records of maintenance inspections and repairs.

Performs all phases of liquid fuels system maintenance including troubleshooting, repairs, and modification of installed systems.

Lubricates and repacks valves; lubricates pumps; replaces gaskets and seals; corrects pumping equipment misalignment; cleans strainers and filter; services filter air separators and checks meters for correct delivery and calibration.

As required, maintains fuel and other systems involving high pressure and toxic gases for miscellaneous industrial activities.

Update inventory, status, process purchase request, order parts needed for repairs if needed.

Participates in the testing of seams and areas suspected of leakage.

Uses hand and power tools such as torque wrenches, and meters, bearing and gear puller, specific gravity scales, bench grinders, hydraulic presses, pipe threading machine, cutting torch, and other test equipment.

Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and have a solution to repair them.

Communicate with team members to discuss scope or progress of job.

Maintain good customer relations and support program objectives.

Work safety at all times-adhere to all applicable safety policies.

Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

One year certificate from college or technical school with five (5) years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.

Ability to work with internal and external customers.

Ability to coordinate with vendors for parts requisition, equipment certifications.

Ability to fill out detailed reports, keep records on services that have been performed.

Ability to navigate Computer Management Systems

Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently without much supervision to effectively manage time and achieve maintenance and production goals.

Knowledgeable with excel.

Must maintain a valid state driver license and be qualified to operate government general-purpose vehicle.

Contract Requirements in accordance with Appendix J:

Completed Refueling Maintenance Course (J3AZR2T351A01AA), military service or commercial equivalent.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Requires climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms standing, bending, and working in cramped areas; lifting and carrying tools and equipment which occasionally may weigh over 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk and risk of electrical shock.
