CO-OCCURRING RECOVERY SPECIALIST

Job Description Position Title: Co-Occurring Recovery Specialist

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Safety Sensitive Position: No

Supervisor: RCORP Project Director

Supervises: N/A

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Co-Occurring Peer Support Specialist assists the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) team to extend the reach of treatment beyond the clinical setting into the daily living environment by providing recovery support services to engage, activate, and support people with behavioral health conditions and their family members.

WORK SUMMARY

Essential Duties:

1. Initially provide the client with information on your role as a Co-Occurring Recovery Specialist.

2. Establish a respectful and purposeful relationship with clients.

3. Provide professional encouragement and a hopeful attitude to clients.

4. Share personal experiences as indicated by the individual clients, while keeping appropriate boundaries.

5. Review and understand all aspects, activities, outcomes, and regulations pertaining to the Rural Community Opioid

Response Program grant funded program, as well as all CBI and Counseling Services policies and procedures.

6. Participate in all RCORP team activities equivalent to fellow team members, such as attending daily team meetings.

7. Coordinate with case managers and probations officers to provide resources for individuals in recovery work with

providers to follow-up with clients for up to 90 days after they have complete treatment.

8. Promote collaboration between agencies and providers within the

FCIHN - Four Corner Indigenous Health Network Consortium for services and treatment options.

9. Promote Peer support training for individuals who have had successful recovery and willing to share experiences

with community and clients.

10. Development of “recovery coaches” with Probation Officers and case managers to train and prepare previously

incarcerated individuals to talk in groups about their SUD addictions, “peer to peer learning.”

11. Promote the discussion of developing recovery resources with the FCIHN consortium.

12. Coordinate Talking Circle groups to promote healing, resolution, and community centered support for individuals in

recovery.

13. Assist clients in navigating through the behavioral health system:

Helps clients move forward with their goals through working with them on an individual and/or group setting, helps

create a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and facilitates creating positive environment.

14. Provide services such as engagement and motivational enhancement strategies, problem solving, and relapse

prevention.

15. Utilize a harm reduction approach to treatment.

16. Employs cognitive behavioral principals when providing substance abuse counseling and teaches relapse prevention.

17. Utilize creativity to provide treatment in an evidenced based way during sessions and while help with the other basic

needs:

18. Examples include going with the clients to explore new hobbies as they try to find healthy ways to occupy their

time.

19. Consistently works with RCORP clients by assisting them with building skills that help promote their own recovery

and self-sufficiency, Examples include, but are not limited to the following:

Social and communication skills training (i.e., practicing skills on how to start a conversation with a client who

wants to meet more people in his neighborhood.)

Function skills training to enhance independent living (i.e., activities of daily living (ADLs), safety planning,

transportation planning or navigation skill building, and money management.)

Provides education to clients about how to take an active role in their own treatment, which includes asserting

preferences and values, even if not well received by some team members (i.e., not wanting to take select

medications.)

20. Provides coaching and consultation to clients to promote recovery and self-direction.

21. Models’ skills for and provides consultation to fellow team members.

22. Provide support to clients in various ways that may include advocacy and providing resources.

23. The position may provide support to the recovery team as follows:

24. Provide data and information for client and funder reports, while maintaining required confidentiality.

25. Research and participate in on-line, video, and in-person training to gain more knowledge and skills for performance

of job.

26. Perform other duties as assigned or required.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Associates, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in related area.

Licensed in social work or counseling.

Possess valid authorization to work in the United States.

Possession of a current Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

Experience and skilled in the use of general office equipment, including calculators, copy machine, printer, and

computers.

Experience and skilled in using Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, web-based programs, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Use of a computer, keyboard and monitor and sitting for long periods of time may be necessary.

Must be able to lift and carry approximately 15 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision,

depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Close visual acuity to performance activities such as preparing and

analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.

Must be able to speak English and listen, hearing sound and spoken words.
