The PositionIdeum seeks a full-time Senior Fabricator to design, develop, and build custom exhibits and installations. This role requires a highly skilled and detail-oriented craftsperson capable of producing museum-quality work while adapting to evolving project needs. The Senior Fabricator is key in bringing complex, interactive exhibits to life—integrating custom cabinetry, digital systems, and interactive elements into engaging visitor experiences.Every project at Ideum is unique. Our fabrication team works on a wide range of bespoke installations for world-class museums, zoos, aquariums, and Fortune 500 companies. Many of our projects incorporate digital and mechanical components, requiring close collaboration with our Creative Services, Media Systems, and Product Manufacturing teams. The ideal candidate is adaptable, innovative, and thrives in a hands-on, problem-solving environment.In addition to fabrication and assembly, this position involves installation planning, shipping, and logistics coordination to ensure that projects are safely transported and efficiently installed on-site. The Senior Fabricator will work closely with project managers to plan shipments, assess installation requirements, and travel for project installations as needed. This position requires travel (5–10%) for domestic and international installations.This is an on-site position at Ideum’s Fabrication Studio in Corrales, New Mexico (near Albuquerque and an hour from Santa Fe).Key ResponsibilitiesFabrication & CraftsmanshipBuild high-quality, custom exhibits and cabinetry to precise specifications.Work with a variety of materials, including wood, metal, and plastics.Ensure seamless integration of digital components, such as touchscreen displays, sensors, and embedded electronics.Apply fine woodworking skills, including joinery, finishing, and veneer work.Technical & Problem-SolvingRead and interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and shop plans.Utilize digital fabrication tools such as CNC routers for precision cutting.Troubleshoot and refine designs on the fly to meet evolving project requirements.Maintain high standards for fit, finish, and durability in all projects.Installation Planning, Shipping & LogisticsPlan and prepare exhibits for safe packing, shipping, and transportation.Coordinate logistics with shipping providers to ensure on-time deliveries.Develop installation plans, site assessments, and hardware requirements.Assist in on-site installations, ensuring projects are set up correctly and safely.Travel (5–10%) for installations, including domestic and occasional international locations.Project Leadership & Team CoordinationOrganize and lead small fabrication teams on projects.Coordinate with Producers, Exhibit Designers, and Media Systems staff to ensure seamless project execution.Assist in training and mentoring junior fabricators.Work independently or under the Director of Fabrication, depending on the project scale.Quality Control & DocumentationEnsure all fabricated components meet museum-grade quality standards.Adhere to ADA compliance and accessibility guidelines.Document fabrication processes, materials, and modifications for internal records.Collaboration & CommunicationWork closely with interdisciplinary teams to bring innovative designs to life.Communicate effectively with designers, engineers, and project managers.Maintain a strong attention to detail while balancing efficiency and project deadlines.Required Qualifications5+ years of experience in woodworking and custom fabrication.3+ years of experience in a professional shop environment, preferably in museum exhibits, furniture making, cabinetry, or industrial design.Strong ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and technical documentation.Expertise in woodworking techniques, joinery, and finishing.Proficiency with a variety of shop tools, including table saws, routers, planers, and sanders.Experience managing small fabrication teams and leading projects.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt designs on the fly.Experience in installation planning, site assessment, and logistics coordination.Ability to pack, ship, and transport exhibits safely.Ability to travel (5–10%) for installations.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Please apply online with Ideum at: https://ideum.rippling-ats.com/job/899457/senior-fabricator?s=cl
