Shelter Coordinator - Bilingual - Overnight

We are looking for two Bilingual Shelter Coordinators to oversee the overnight shift (8p - 5a) for a shelter in Albuquerque, NM. The ideal candidate has experience in social services, is passionate about engaging migrants and asylum seekers experiencing homelessness and/or has experience with this population.

As the Shelter Coordinator you will be responsible for the overnight activities of the facility and meet the needs of the ECHO clients staying there. The position also entails completing overnight tasks such as laundry, cleaning the facility, and maintenance to keep the facility running smoothly. In addition to the shelter coordinator duties, the Overnight Shelter Coordinator will be the primary person making decisions in emergency situations and answering other overnight volunteers’ questions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversee activities and general operation at the shelter site during overnight hours.

Assist volunteers with questions and support throughout the night.

Thoroughly note activities throughout the night.

Evaluate the condition of the shelter premises nightly upon arrival for maintenance, upkeep or cleanliness. Will report the conditions of the shelter to the Migrant Assistance Coordinator.

Work with the Migrant Assistance Coordinator to ensure that overnight tasks are completed and shelter chores are being completed by the clients.

Assist clients with general requests and needs.

Complete rounds of the entire shelter areas approximately every 30 minutes throughout the shift.

Ensure the safety of all volunteers, clients and staff during the nightly operations.

Assist with shelter cleanliness by helping with the following duties, but not limited to: shelter laundry, empty trash cans, mop, break down boxes, clean the kitchen, bathrooms, and upstairs admin areas.

Use de-escalation skills & trauma informed care approach when client issues arise.

Attend training, weekly staff meetings and Overnight Coordinator meetings.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Must be Bilingual in Spanish/English

Bachelor's Degree in Social Services is preferred

Social Work Experience is preferred

Leadership Experience is preferred

Provide respectful engagement to adults with histories of chronic homelessness, serious psychiatric disabilities and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Decision making; able to make decisions while on call and handle situations appropriately.

Calm demeanor; able to work under pressure; able to respond to a crisis situation, health or safety issue and take appropriate and immediate action.

Excellent oral communication skills and the ability to interact with all departments/levels of the organization and outside third parties in a highly professional manner.

Ability to work with diverse populations including those facing challenges in the areas of mental health, domestic violence, child welfare services and aging.

Excellent time-management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and take initiative.

Able to maintain a high-level privacy and confidentiality of employees’, guests’ and clients’ information.

Knowledge of universal precautions and what constitutes a medical or situational emergency.

Understanding of mandated reporting laws.

Must be professional, flexible, friendly and work as a team player.

Intermediate knowledge of Office Suite, including WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint.
