Summary The New Mexico VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Maintenance Worker. Th incumbent is responsible for general maintenance and mechanical repair requirements as established by the Grounds Shop Foreman of the Maintenance and Operations Section of the Engineering Service. Responsibilities Duties include but no limited to: Operates electric, gasoline, or diesel powered fork lift trucks which are capable of lifting loads weighing 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or more that are higher than 420 centimeters (168 inches). Makes repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controllers, equipment, electric valves and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings. Repairs and maintains food carts, laundry carts, metal furniture, pumps and air compressors throughout the medical center. Removes damaged portions of walls, partitions, or other similar structures in preparation for repair of damage. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and failures and determines the extent of repairs and parts needed, estimated materials required, selects best work methods, techniques and trade practices and accomplishes the repair or overhaul. Follows general instructions or simple drawings to perform tasks that require significant manual skill, prior work experience or training, and very heavy physical effort. Maintains the integrity and accuracy of data related to accomplished work in a work management system. Identifying malfunctions or non-functions, then proceeding with corrective action as necessary. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms. He/she often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty, and hard-to-reach locations. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally require to lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
