Job Title: PhlebotomistJob DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced phlebotomist to join a high-volume patient service center. The ideal candidate will have expertise in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring all processes comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Responsibilities
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Clearly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods to patients.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperature and follow specific protocols for transport.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department training sessions.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in blood draws, labeling specimens, and centrifuging specimens.
Experience in high-volume blood draw environments.
Ability to handle difficult sticks and oncology patient experience is a plus.
Adaptability and ability to deal with different personalities.
Capability to ensure minimal patient discomfort (try not to stick patients more than twice).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
GED or High School Diploma.
Phlebotomy experience in high-volume patient service centers or oncology centers.
No certification needed for phlebotomy.
Processing experience is not a disqualifier; training will be provided.
Work EnvironmentThis location is extremely busy, with phlebotomists performing 40-50 draws a day. The role involves working in both the front end for blood work and the back area for processing. The work environment includes centrifuging, processing SPM, and entering data into the system electronically. The team consists of 9 employees in the front and 6 Medical Assistants in the cancer center. There are 4 different areas to draw blood, with phlebotomists and Medical Assistants working together in pods. The position requires someone who can keep up with a high volume and fast pace.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
