Sr Manager, Investment Strategy and Portfolio Management

Overview of the role:To manage balance sheet risks and maximise the value of our investment assets, TAL is expanding its investment capabilities including the implementation of a new Target Operating Model. This is an exciting role, offering the ability to build capability, shape outcomes and add significant value. The role will work closely with the Head of Investments (general account) & ALM and be responsible for investment strategy and portfolio management. The focus will be rates and credit investments and will require a strong understanding of asset-liability management and life insurance regulatory capital standards. Key Accountabilities:Investment strategyClarifying investment objectives and quantifying risk appetite including via senior executive and/or Board workshopsDesigning capital efficient, liability-driven, investment strategies that achieve investment objectivesProviding advice to Risk on appropriate targets and limitsPortfolio structure design including the optimal mix / diversification of strategies / exposuresProvide advice to the business on investment elements of product design (including Retirement Income)Analysis of competitors’ investment strategies and performancePortfolio managementInvestment risk management, ensuring ongoing compliance with limitsInvestment manager benchmark designInvestment market and economic researchDynamic exposure management including active credit and duration positioningDerivative overlay implementation when applicable (including CDS and bond futures)Collaboration and stakeholder engagementDraft Board and ALCo papersPresent to various internal forums and executive committeesInteract with senior executives including the CFO, Appointed Actuary, Chief Risk Officer, etc.Ongoing collaboration with external investment managers and where necessary provide robust feedback and challengeProvide advice and mentorship to the broader ALM team
