Commercial Fishing Fleet is looking for Deckhands for fishing trips lasting 36- 48 hours.
Although financially rewarding, the work is strenuous and sometimes hazardous due to the vessel operating under all types of weather conditions including extreme cold. This means standing, walking and maintaining balance in rain, snow, ice, wind, rough seas or other types of weather. Candidates must be able to be away from home for extended periods of time, live and work in a cramped environment, and work as a team member at all times.
DUTIES:
Follow safety procedures
Operate gear and machinery as directed by Captain and Mate
Perform basic vessel maintenance
Operate machinery to move and sort live seafood on deck
Maintain a safe and clean working and living environment
Assist in offload of product/load and unload supplies.
General housekeeping and upkeep of the vessel, including washing, chipping, painting, and cleaning
Operate or work with cranes, hooks, anchor winches, slings, dredge
Examine cables, wires, gear and equipment to ensure they are fit for use. Use tools to fix as needed
REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to work and move safely on an uneven, slippery and moving surface around machinery and gear
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, up to 24 hour shifts as required by fishing and market conditions
Must attend and successfully pass all required safety drills and training
Maintain a safe and clean working and living environment
Must be able to lift 60-100 lbs
Both hands must be capable of grabbing, holding or gripping rope, rails, equipment and vessel structures. Applicants must be able to climb up and down ladders
