The Position As the Manager of Market Intelligence, the functional responsibilities include providing market intelligence operational management through discovery, consolidation, validation and dissemination of competitive information to identify trends, opportunities and threats in the company's external environment and drive evidence-based decision-making in brand marketing and throughout the organization. Analyze competitors, market trends, industries, and other external issues as directed and set by the Associate Director, Strategic Market Intelligence. Provide intelligence to leadership teams charged with setting competitive and market strategies. Project manage the market intelligence process in order to support key stakeholders' needs for information and intelligence. Gather and deliver key intelligence needs in support of the strategic direction of the business. Enhance the company marketplace position by leveraging knowledge gained about competitors, therapy and disease area trends, and competitive environment; develop innovative solutions to complex, unstructured problems. Relationships This position reports to the Associate Director, Strategic Market Intelligence. Collaborates closely with the brand teams, Future Business Strategy leadership teams, Global Commercial Development, Commercial Insight & Analytics, Portfolio Marketing, Forecasting, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, and Market Access. Supports collection of key insights from external sources such as clinical trial databases, financial analyst reports, and news sources while collaborating with internal stakeholders in identifying business questions and internally generated insights. Reports timely, verified, insights back to Therapy Area cross-functional teams and other leadership teams (as relevant) including Global Market Development Commercial team, Medical Affairs team, Portfolio Marketing, and Commercial Insights & Analytics. External relationships include interactions with professional services vendors. Facilitates collaboration among necessary NNI and global stakeholders and engages in continuous communication to ensure effective stakeholder management. Essential Functions
Collaboration & Communication:
Develop and sustain close working relationships with key stakeholders, across portfolio marketing, CMR, sales operations and relevant NNI departments; build diverse internal and external network for primary intelligence gathering and cross-validation
Develop presentations with clear storylines to communicate key conclusions and recommendations. Effectively communicate timely critical information to a broad range of stakeholders
Market Intelligence Consultation:
Manage the gathering of information from a variety of internal and external sources regarding competitors ' clinical strategy, concentration, financial results, targeted markets, merger & acquisition activities, product development. Develops holistic (clinical, commercial, managed markets), predictive landscape assessments and performs other ad hoc analyses to proactively address issues in support of business objectives, mitigate decision risk, drive action plan development and ultimately improve commercial planning
Independently provides actionable recommendations based on a) thorough analysis of internal and external business issues and environmental factors b) careful assessment of available data and determination of knowledge gaps c) translating data into trends with estimated business impact; proactively translates business challenges into research briefings and analysis
Manages the development of assigned market intelligence plans in conjunction with the Associate Director, Market Intelligence and incorporate needs and opportunity assessments with stakeholders
Analyze and triangulate information, determine significance, assess implications, provide analysis and communicate data to key stakeholders with recommended actions and potential counter measures as appropriate
Collaborate with Commercial Insights and Analytics to ensure complete and consistent communications
Identify critical knowledge gaps and develop new capabilities to address the evolving market such as the consumerism, advancements of diagnostics, and digital health
Ensure concise synthesis of research findings, communicated in the context of decision drivers and key business decisions that are tailored to specific audiences
Ensure self and others follow formal protocols and policies for the collection, assessment, classification, storage, and dissemination of competitive information in accordance with SCIP and Novo Nordisk’s SOP
Identify and evaluate vendors for Market intelligence research; establishes and manages research projects in alignment with brand team needs within budget
Influence commercial planning and strategy development through impactful presentation of competitor information and plan and execute strategic workshops as needed
Ensure the most relevant US market assessments are communicated to global in support of the forecasting process
Provide relevant input to the ongoing budget planning process (AB/RE/SPP)
Provide rigorous assessment of the accuracy, validity and reliability of gathered information
Lead the planning for coverage of key medical conferences and gather and report insights on priority business questions
Leadership and development:
Champion the Triple Bottom Line in Market Intelligence and internal strategy consulting
Develop innovative solutions to unstructured, complex problems; make recommendations that have a significant impact on company (time, people, budget) resources and potentially affect the company’s ability to achieve its goals
Proactively seek process improvement opportunities by challenging existing processes, proposing solutions, driving approved implementation plan to advance team capabilities and improve internal efficiencies
Strive to maintain awareness of ‘best practices' in market intelligence across industries by maintaining a current familiarity with data sources, trends, techniques, agencies
Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
A Bachelors degree required, preferably in a science discipline. Master's degree preferred
A minimum of six (6) years ' related experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry. Solid experience drawing commercial implications from clinical results
Ability to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines
Ability to collect and synthesize complex information, making it relevant, understandable, and actionable for key stakeholders
Ability to influence people and facilitate cooperation of internal and external partners for both intelligence acquisition and recommendation acceptance
Ability to structure and present qualitative data in a compelling and convincing fashion, strong writing, presentation, and project management skills
Analytical and strategic thinking - able to see the big picture from scattered pieces of information
Robust critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to understand complex, undefined project needs and take a logical approach to planning projects, organizing work and communicating clinical intelligence
Networking - positively interacts with any relevant source of information. Builds strong relationships
Proven search and research skills including experience with the use of online databases (scientific, business, patent, etc)
Understanding of drug development, commercialization, and lifecycle management
Understanding of the intelligence cycle, especially collection, assessment, and management of primary data
Work independently with ability to guide members of team toward achieving objectives and set direction of self and others accordingly
