Mechanic - Heavy Diesel Mechanic

J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic based in their Hackensack location

Essential Job Functions:

- Ability to Diagnose and perform necessary repairs

- Ability to diagnose computer related failures through diagnostic

- Remove faulty components and repair and or replace. Ability to make any necessary adjustments

- Ability to complete repair orders, record time and provide accurate repair notes electronically through the CMMS

- Assists other technicians with repairs as directed by Shop  Foreman

- Safely uses all power and hand-held mechanic’s  tools

- Selects appropriate action for all equipment repairs during the diagnostic process

- Evaluates completed work and conducts final inspection of equipment prior to placing back in  service

- Cleans exterior of all vehicles prior to release back into service, if related to repair

- Adds lubricants and other fluids to all vehicles and equipment as needed

- Maintains shop and work areas according to TPR 5S standards

- Utilizes appropriate PPE and follows all safety guidelines and procedures

- Notifies Shop Foreman of issues / request assistance from Shop Foreman as needed

- Notifies Shop Foreman of discrepancies in work order requirements to actual repair needs.

- Other duties as assigned by the Shop Foreman

Special Skills / Abilities Needed:

- High school diploma, GED, or vocational school required

- Ability to use Microsoft and Apple computer systems and applications

- CDL strongly desired

- Must have five years direct experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic

- Must have the ability to interpret maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams and other documents. Ability to safely operate all company equipment, both on-road and off-road.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

- Ability to operate shop machinery such as drill press, rolls, shears, burning tables, and forklifts, etc. safely.  

- Ability to lift, remove and replace tires, parts and other accessories on vehicles and equipment weighing 90 or more.

- Ability to climb and maneuver on and around vehicles and equipment

- Ability to bend, stand, carry, stoop, kneel and reach frequently

- Ability to work on the ground using creepers or mats while reaching or holding objects for various periods of time

- Ability to work in different weather conditions

- The ability to operate impact tools

- Ability to push and pull various weights.

- Ability to reach and work overhead for various lengths of time
