Summary: Manages the supervision of Engineers and Assistant Engineers in all phases of train operations in conformance with NJ Transit, FRA and NORAC rules and regulations to ensure the safe, on time and efficient movement of trains. Roles and Responsibilities

Manages the supervision of Engineers and Assistant Engineers in all phases of train operations in conformance with NJ TRANSIT, FRA and NORAC rules and regulations to ensure the safe, on time and efficient movement of trains.

Monitors daily operations on assigned line to ensure safe, reliable on time service, and makes operating adjustments as needed.

Manages the qualification of Engineers and Assistant Engineers on all equipment, air brakes, physical characteristics, proper train handling, and operating rule compliance, and monitors their performance by riding trains, observing and instructing.

Manages the conducting of locomotive inspections from an operational standpoint to ensure they are in safe operating condition.

Investigates accidents and unusual occurrences documenting same to determine cause and take corrective action if applicable to prevent similar incidence.

Consistently observes, corrects and trains subordinates to ensure compliance with safety rules, policies and procedures. Monitors work environment for cleanliness and safety hazards and takes corrective action.

Tracks PTC enforcements and cut-outs to create the Enforcement Report required quarterly by the FRA.

Takes reports from short lines and addresses any PTC related issues.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent, and seven (7) years of progressive experience in railroad operations, to include passenger service as a qualified locomotive engineer and experience in a supervisory or lead role.

Formal post High School education desirable.

Each year of formal post High School education may be applied toward a year of required experience.
