Description We are seeking a Payroll Manager to join our team at a renowned university in Essex County New Jersey. This role offers a contract to hire employment opportunity in the education industry. As a Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for conducting payroll procedures, managing records, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities: Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines concerning payroll procedures. Oversee the preparation of semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls. Generate tax reports, approve payroll adjustments, and manage year-end W2 adjustments. Review tax notices and garnishments, collaborating with external vendors for any necessary resolutions. Conduct analysis and review of staff paychecks before and after each payroll transmission as a security measure. Verify data entry of Payroll Administrators and approve the completion and settlement of each payroll to be transmitted. Liaise with Human Resources on employee pay and benefit items. Oversee the distribution of payroll to proper general ledger accounts. Supervise other payroll personnel as assigned and hold weekly Payroll Team meetings. Serve as the primary contact with external payroll processing. Reconcile and approve invoices from external payroll vendors. Identify and improve business processes to increase performance, save costs, and improve the quality of work. Reconcile quarterly taxes processed by external systems.Requirements A minimum of 10 years of experience in payroll management, preferably in an educational or university setting. Proficiency in Workday Payroll and Workday Financial Management is required. Experience with Full Cycle Payroll, including processing bi-weekly and weekly payroll. Ability to reconcile payroll effectively and efficiently. Expertise in payroll tax management. Knowledge and experience in year-end payroll processing. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. A bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred. Professional certification in Payroll Management is desirable. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations. Proven experience in managing a team.
