Position SummaryThe Business Continuity & Preparedness Lead at South Jersey Industries oversees the critical areas of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity preparedness and development, and the documentation of departmental policies and procedures. This position will champion the development, implementation, and oversight of the enterprise-wide Business Continuity Plan that addresses specific risks, events, crisis scenarios, crisis response plans, and business resumption plans within departments and at the corporate level. This key team member will ensure all Business Continuity projects align with strategic plans and that departments are structured for efficient operations under regular and crisis conditions while identifying and overcoming any obstacles. The incumbent will be a lead for the department in strategic and financial planning processes, business continuity software systems, and Risk & Resiliency quarterly meetings. Keeping current on trends and technologies in disaster planning and maintaining working relationships within the National Response Framework with local, state, and federal emergency response organizations are key to this role. This subject matter expert will offer recommendations and champion continuous improvement. This position is also subject to out-of-hours calls regarding alarms, security breaches, and emergencies.Essential Functions:

Develop, implement, maintain, and align to best practices an enterprise-wide Business Continuity Plan and Incident Support Team Procedures and Standards; update all existing plans in their entirety and migrate to SharePoint

Plan simulated exercises (drills, evacuation/escape plans, etc.) to test the effectiveness of plans and employee responses; recommend improvement plans based on results and ensure “After-Action Reports” are completed

Liaise with members of IST, CMT, and IST, as well as any federal, state, and local businesses/agencies that may impact policies, procedures, business continuity, or other emergency plans

Serve as a leader within the Emergency Response All-Hazards community through implementing the National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System

Implement a business recovery planning process and Business Impact Analysis documents for presentation to the senior leadership team

Partner with business area leaders in the ongoing evaluation of organizational policies/procedures, work performance, and alignment with regulatory and business changes, and provide expert direction for continuous improvement; assess mission and resource requirements and evaluate departmental vulnerabilities, identify recovery options, and develop detailed recovery procedures

Coordinate Business Continuity team activities by developing goals, assigning responsibilities, evaluating impact, monitoring progress, coaching, prioritizing, and providing support; champion corporate emergency preparedness task teams and ensure deliverables are met

Develop operating and budgets for the Business Continuity team; prepare final recommendations with variance explanations and metrics to leadership; establish tracking systems for Business Continuity spending; allocate budgets consistently

Perform other special projects and assignments within the scope of the role

QualificationsRequired Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Management, Business Continuity, or other related field of study with 8 years of relevant experience, or;

Master’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience

Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree

Preferred Background:

Business Continuity Planning Certification (CBCP) or equivalent

Knowledge and experience within utilities, gas, or a comparable industry

Required Skills:

Thorough understanding of business practices including finance management, team building, strategic planning, relationship management, leadership, and resource management

Strong leadership skills to build a quality, team-oriented, customer-focused professional staff aligned with the client’s business needs

Ability to establish and maintain high customer trust and confidence in the department

Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulations and develop user-friendly policies and procedures for all levels of employees
