Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing

A minimum of 1 year RN experience

Ability to perform all competencies of the position is required for employment in the position

Preferred:

Bachelor s degree preferred

Previous OB experience preferred

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New Jersey

Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

NRP certification

Scheduling Requirements:

Full-time

Day shift

40 hours weekly

Essential Functions:Nurses in the mother/baby unit care for mothers and newborns. Nurses caring for the new mother demonstrate knowledge of normal post-partum physiological and psychological maternal adaptation. Assesses maternal-newborn attachment and intervenes if negative behaviors are noted. Fully supports breast-feeding by providing consistent education; discouraging use of supplements and pacifiers; providing encouragement; and utilizing resources for difficult feeding situations. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience and commitment to teamwork and collaboration with all members of the health care team.Maintains a thermoneutral environment for the newborn. Assures newborn identification is present according to policy. Obtains blood specimens via heel stick, as ordered, in the correct procedure and location. Assists physician with circumcision, including assurance of informed consent and newborn comfort measures. Maintains NRP certification. Provides measures to decrease risk of infant abduction and demonstrates appropriate response in actual/potential situations. Assures newborn identification is present according to policy.
