Founded in 1838, The Pennington School is an independent, coeducational school serving day and boarding students in grades 6 through 12. Total student enrollment is approximately 535, of which 25% are boarding students.

The Pennington School is seeking a Painter to work on a temporary basis, starting in June 2024 for approximately 12 weeks. The position entails painting of the interior and exterior of buildings, walls, and other structural surfaces at The Pennington School.

Job duties:

Preps outdoor surfaces via power washing, painting, staining, and seals decks, wood, siding, brick, concrete, walls, trim, fencing, etc.

Tapes, flashes, spackles, repairs and applies texturing, and minor drywall patches on a variety of surfaces.

Fills and seals cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.

Removes fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, blinds, hardware, and electric switch covers prior to painting.

Applies paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other finishes to surfaces including ceilings, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets

Applies waterproofing and sealing to parapet walls, brick, and masonry.

Maintains an organized work area in the Operations Building at all times.

Safely uses manual tools and power equipment common to the construction trades.

Other duties as assigned to support the operations team with set-ups.

Maintains MSDS sheets, inventory, and log information on all paint and chemicals used in accordance with OSHA standards.

Provides support to co-workers, faculty, and staff when needed.

Completes other assigned job duties as required.

Qualifications:

5 years of combined experience working in residential, educational, and commercial type environments.

Knowledge of the following processes: surface preparation, use of abrasives, cleaners, scrapers, power sanders, power washing, application of primers, bonding agents, paints, stains, application of preservatives, masonry, waterproofing, sealers, finish coat applications, oil and latex bases.

Knowledge and experience with the use and application of painting equipment associated with the trade, i.e., brushes, rollers, and various sundries.

Able to erect and work from scaffolding, “A” ladders, and straight ladders up to 24’.

Must be able to perform physical activities such as but not limited to lifting and carrying equipment (up to 50 lbs., unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, or walking. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and in accordance with OSHA regulations.

Able to work on ladders for extended periods of time in order to reach high ceilings, walls, and outdoor surfaces.

Ability to work in extreme temperatures.

Hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position is located at our 55-acre campus in Pennington, NJ. The ability to walk up and down stairs is required. Not all buildings on campus have elevators.
