Evening Day and Night Shifts AvailableCorrectional Facility in Bridgeton NJ The Medical Technician provides direct and indirect patient care to inmates under the direction of a Physician, Advanced Practice Nurse, Physician Assistant, or a Registered NurseTakes vital signs, height and weight and documents in electronic medical records (EMR)Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for the examinationObtains specimen collection and handling, including, but not limited to, drawing bloodAssists with the cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment within the Health Service UnitMaintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate mannerMaintains the supply stock in the examination roomsAggregates the orders of all medications and forwards to the pharmacy provider / local pharmacyAble to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team membersEntering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional OfficersQualifications Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program (or related skills technician program)At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill and abilities and demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties of the positionEMT certification or CNA certification or formal training and/or on the job experience in phlebotomyValid Driver's License is requiredRequired Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThis position is subject to State Regulations regarding certification and/or licensureComputer literacyMust be able to work mandatory overtime and will not be able to leave until the next shift relief arrives or other coverage can be arranged and to stay in cases of an emergencyAs a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutesPhysically able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds)Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environmentsAbility to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting and/or standing is requiredIntermittent physical exertion when performing job activities, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities requiring walks, bends, stretches, pushes, and pullsHearing is essential, ability to speak clearly is required, required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions and on call responsibilitiesA generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adults, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behaviorMedical Technician must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settingsMust possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to anotherWe are committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, religion, color sex, national origin, citizenship status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, uniform service member status, genetic information, disability, or any other protected status, in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
