A fiber lineman is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic communication lines. This includes both overhead and underground cables and fiber. The job involves tasks such as installing lines, repairing damage, and providing routine maintenance to poles and conduits. Additionally, the lineman may work with fiber optic cable in communication and power spaces and underground infrastructure.
A ground hand contributes to a crew by assisting in new construction and various tasks such as maintenance of tools, site preparation, cable labeling, documentation, and other related tasks such as construction clean-up. Common job requirements of a ground hand include being accustomed to reading a map, a variety of hand and power tools, safety, as well as basic computer skills for learning and compliance training. It is also a bonus if you have an understanding of DOT regulations.
