The Inn at Hancock is New Hampshire's oldest continuously operating country inn and tavern. Founded circa 1789, the Inn has been the subject to a 2-year historic $7.5M restoration and property investment. Our luxury country inn offers guests accommodations in 15 guest suites as well as four distinct dining offerings adorned in traditional bespoke decor and period antique furnishings.
We are recruiting and hiring now for a May start date BOTH full-time and part-time.
Professional Servers are representatives of the very best of The Hancock Inn and its luxury environment. The essence of the role is respect, grace, and hospitality in creating an exceptional experience for each guest. Each Server must be completely knowledgeable about all food and beverage offerings, as well as about our Chef and their culinary background and vision.
Servers are responsible for taking food and beverage orders, answering questions about menu items and specials, and retrieving and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food orders to guest tables. Servers must maintain complete knowledge of all special dining occasions and guest allergies. Servers must also assist in the maintenance of the dining areas and equipment. All Server duties must be executed respectfully and responsibly, courteously and efficiently, according to Inn standards.
Note: Minimum 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
Responsibilities:
Taking Orders and Serving Food
Take, input, ensure transmission and deliver guest orders in accordance to department specifications
Guide and assist all bus persons and runners in their duties to ensure optimum service to the guests
Maintain knowledge on brewing and serving all coffee and tea products
Retrieve and serve alcoholic beverages to guests, including proper service of Champagne and Wine (with support and training from Wine Attendant)
Maintain knowledge and completely abide by all applicable state liquor laws
Present checks and process payments adhering to all payment and cash handling procedures for our P.O.S. system and all manual system procedures
Extend appreciation to guests and invite them to return again
Complete end of shift server cash out with shift manager to include the following:
o Recording of all discounts and comps
o Recording of all tips
o Ensuring all guest checks are accounted for and all cash due is submitted
Assist in set up of room service food and beverage to guests as assigned to ensure optimum service to guests
Maintain complete knowledge of:
o Scheduled daily activities and in-house groups
o Daily house count
o Hotel extension numbers and radios carried by hotel personnel
o Hours of operation of each outlet, ambiance, menu selections and price range
o Menu items, specials, 86’d items, alcoholic offerings, and non-alcoholic offerings available in the restaurant
o Table, seat and station numbers, proper table set ups, room capacity and dress code of restaurant
Restaurant Area Cleanliness and Presentability
Complete all opening and closing side duties as assigned in accordance to department specifications
Clean and reset tables according to inn standards
Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas
Inspect tables and stations ensuring that all set up meets the departmental standards, check throughout meal period and rectify or report any deficiencies
Monitor and ensure that all aspects of service conform to departmental standards. Notify respective personnel for problems to be corrected
Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule
Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
Guest Support Services
Have complete knowledge and understanding of The Hancock Inn Service Standards
Be able to provide a warm, genuine and comfortable experience for all guests in our restaurants and inn, including obtaining and use guest names
Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards
Anticipate guests needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day
Maintain positive guest relations at all times and ensure confidentiality of all guest information
Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction
Be familiar with all inn services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately
Answer telephone courteously and efficiently in accordance with inn standards
Take, record and confirm restaurant reservations/cancellations according to Inn standards
Accommodate all requests for information courteously
Take, record and relay messages in accordance with Inn standards
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication skills in both verbal and written English, for in-person interactions and telephone interactions
Ability to compute basic arithmetic and access and input information into the P.O.S system (experience with Resy system a plus)
Ability to work collaboratively with our team, give clear direction to others, and treat everyone with respect
Ability to focus attention on guests’ needs, remaining calm and courteous
Ability to think clearly and quickly, maintain concentration, and make concise decisions in pressure situations
Solid attention to detail and ability to create customer delight by paying attention to the little things
Skill in persuasively selling and upselling selected food and beverage items
Strong organizational skills and ability to successfully coordinate multiple tables and orders simultaneously
Ability to follow directions thoroughly and perform job functions with minimal supervision
Experience and Education:
High school graduate or equivalent training certificate- must be at least 18 to serve alcoholic beverages
Restaurant service experience and/or previous culinary training, with guest relations training
Certification of previous training in wine, food and beverage service, food handling certification a plus
Certification in alcohol awareness program
Certification in CPR, preferred but can be received on the job
Managerial and Supervisory Experience:
No managerial duties but provides support and direction to Back Waiters, Runners and Hosts
