Perinatal Care Technician (LNA) with the Birthing Pavilion

OverviewOur Birthing Pavilion is a 21-room, 24-bed Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) unit. We average approximately 1300 deliveries each year. Approximately fifty-five percent of our patients are high-risk and are part of our Maternal Fetal Medicine service. We receive transports from all of New Hampshire, Southern Vermont, and occasionally Maine. We have a robust midwifery service along with a generalist physician service. We provide antepartum care, intrapartum care, postpartum care, normal newborn care, and focus care newborn care. We have a two-bed triage room in which we triage all of our own patients. Our unit includes two operating rooms (ORs) in which everyone is trained in perioperative care, i.e. circulating and scribing in the OR, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) services. We collaborate with many units in the organization including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiovascular Critical Care (CVCC), and the Main Operating Room to provide highly specialized care to our pregnant and postpartum patients. The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN or NICU) is next door to us and we have a very close relationship with their team.This FT role is 36hrs/week and the schedule is 3x12hr shifts which rotates days/overnights/weekends/holidaysResponsibilitiesPerforms assigned patient care activities, including scrubbing functions for the Operating Room (OR) and assisting the Registered Nurse (RN) circulator.

Provides age specific, individualized care which supports psychosocial functioning and facilitates lifestyle changes. Provides reassurance, acceptance, and encouragement during times of stress in the attempt to minimize apprehension or uneasiness, and observes the patient for non-verbal cues of pain or discomfort.

Assists with routine patient care activities under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, including, but not be limited to, performing ADL’s, obtaining clinical data, including vital signs, heights and weights, utilizing universal precautions, collecting specimens or performing point of care testing and recording results in medical record, etc.

Performs laboratory tests or Point of Care Testing at the bedside. Performs the infant hearing test and documents results for the Infant Hearing Screening Program.

Prepares room for recovery, making sure all equipment needed in room by nursing staff is available and ready for use.

Assists in promoting patient safety and environmental cleanliness/order. Replenishes/orders supplies, case carts, and instrumentation for unit and ORs. Maintains and cleans ORs to ensure readiness at all times.

Maintains and cleans equipment as well as instrumentation ensuring that it is in working condition. Maintains the orderliness of work area, keeping hallways clear of excess equipment. Maintains the patient’s surrounding including assisting with communications and aiding the patient in room orientation.

Facilitates communication and coordination of patient care with ancillary services. Screens and directs telephone calls to appropriate personnel.

Performs inpatient scheduling of ancillary services, appointments, etc. Assists with admissions, discharges, coding, demographic information, verification and reconciliation of census reports.

Maintains LMS database. Admits and inserts all pertinent data. Upon delivery, ensures the delivery date and time is entered in LMS system.

Maintains Infant Security database, admitting and discharging infants into the system.

Makes follow-up appointments and arranges for tests and procedures.

Assist in the identification and implementation of unit based process improvements.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

High school graduate with 2 years of previous health care setting or emergency medical care experience.

Successful completion of Birthing Pavilion Scrub Program required.

Excellent interpersonal skills required.

Must be capable of completing a high volume of requests quickly and efficiently in multiple roles.

Prior knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Required Licensure/Certifications

Licensed Nursing Assistant in the State of NH strongly preferred.

BLS certification required.
