About the District

The Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District (TDRPD) is a Nevada County special district in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. TDRPD has been providing recreation and park services for all members of our community since 1963. The District maintains and operates a variety of facilities and parks within its boundaries, enriching the quality of life for those who live and vacation in the Truckee/North Tahoe area. TDRPD enjoys a program participation rate of 75% among Truckee’s 17,000 and growing residents. TDRPD has a history of working with citizen groups to generate volunteers and funding for new facilities. TDRPD’s mission is to inspire creative, active lives for a healthy mountain community. TDRPD reaches this mission daily by providing numerous active and passive recreation opportunities which includes both indoors and outdoors with groups and individuals. The District employs 56 full-time employees and up to 200 part-time employees in the peak season. TDRPD is one of the bigger employers in the area, providing full-time professional jobs, introductory first-time employment as well as stimulating part-time work for many different ages in the area. The District’s facilities include the Steve Randall Community Recreation Center, the Community Swimming Pool, the Community Art Center, the Veterans Building, the Park Corporation Yard, Ponderosa Golf Course, the public Boat launch on Donner Lake, 37 public piers on Donner lake, West End Beach on Donner Lake, and 6 Parks throughout Truckee for a total of over 182 acres.

About the Position

The Aquatics Program Coordinator is hired by the Aquatics Supervisor and is responsible for assisting the Aquatics Supervisor in leading, organizing, planning and reviewing the work of staff, as well as assisting in the running all activities of the Aquatics Department.

The position of Aquatics Program Coordinator is an at-will, FLSA exempt salaried position. It is a hands-on position with a high degree of staff engagement and therefore not appropriate for remote work of any kind.

The Aquatics Program Coordinator assists in overseeing all aquatics and concession operations at the Truckee Community Pool, the Donner Lake Boat Ramp, and West End Beach at Donner Lake. The Aquatics Program Coordinator assist in managing a large and very successful swim lesion program at the Community Pool. The Aquatics Program Coordinator is supported by the Aquatics Supervisor and two other year-round professional staff as well as many part-time staff including lifeguards, swim instructors, and cashiers.

Essential Job Functions

Plans, organizes, supervises, recruits, and reviews the work of part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees, contract positions, and volunteers assigned to the aquatics program and related facilities and sites.

Trains staff in work and safety procedures and in the operation and use of equipment and materials; implements procedures and standards.

Monitors operations and activities of the aquatic recreation program; recommends improvements and modifications and prepares various reports.

Determines and recommends equipment, materials, and staffing needs for assigned recreation programs and facilities; participates in the annual budget preparation; prepares detailed cost estimates with appropriate justifications.

Plans, organizes, and supervises several aquatic recreation programs, including swim lessons, water aerobics, water sports, special interest classes, special events, water safety training, and lifeguard training.

Develops, implements, and monitors goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs reflective of the community’s needs and the District’s and department’s overall goals, policies, and procedures, and in compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Provides District-wide training on First Aid, CPR, AED, and lifeguard skills, as necessary.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the Aquatics Program Coordinator position is a service and solution-oriented leader with experience in aquatics and skilled in managerial aspects of finance, long-term planning, communication, team building, and organizational change. The ideal candidate will also enjoy working indoors and outdoors. They will enjoy working with and supervising young staff and enjoy teaching and managing swim lessons.

Experience at successfully implementing policies and procedures to maximize cost recovery for aquatics services is essential. A demonstrated ability to create programs that are responsive to a growing and diverse community is extremely important.

As a key member of the Aquatics leadership team, the Aquatics Program Coordinator needs to possess refined leadership qualities of honesty; integrity, a willingness to listen, decisiveness, persistence and organization skills. Minimum Qualifications

1. Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, child development, liberal studies, physical education, business or public administration, or a closely related field

2. Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in aquatic program development and implementation

3. Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record

4. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Class B driver’s license

5. Possession of a valid American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED certificate

6. Possession of valid American Red Cross Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, and not required, but preferred, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certificates

Compensation

TDRPD offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary for this position is dependent upon experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. The current salary range for the Aquatics Program Coordinator is $74,401.60 - $94,140.80 per year.

Ten days paid vacation each year; fifteen days after two years of service; seventeen days after seven years of service; and twenty days of vacation after ten years of service
