Professional Mechanical Engineer, Project Manager

Sugarpine Engineering is a growing MEP engineering and consulting firm working in many sectors and diversified project types.

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have an ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and 7+ years of professional experience, much of those managing projects. A strong relationship network and reputation within the AE MEP and energy sectors are essential to reach the high end of the listed salary range.

Primary location: Reno – Tahoe. Flexible work arrangement within the geographical area could be an option for an exceptional candidate. Let’s talk.

Key Responsibilities

· Team Management: Oversee, guide, and coordinate efforts of other team members.

· Project Management: Oversee and manage engineering contracts: scope, schedule, and fee from inception to completion.

· Design and Development: Develop and design HVAC, plumbing, and energy systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

· Technical Analysis: Conduct detailed analyses and evaluations to ensure systems are designed and operating efficiently and effectively.

· Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements and expectations are met or exceeded.

· Research and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to bring innovative solutions to the company.

· Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed engineering reports, drawings, and specifications.

· Compliance: Ensure all projects adhere to local, state, and federal regulations.

· Some travel and assistance to the leadership team as necessary.

Mandatory Qualifications

· Education: ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (BSME).

· Experience: 7+ years of professional experience in MEP engineering, specifically with HVAC, plumbing, and energy services.

· Professional Engineer (PE) license: Required.

· Industry Knowledge: Relationships and references in the MEP, HVAC, plumbing, and/or energy sectors.

· Technical Skills: Proficient in CAD software, design tools, Revit, MS Office, and other relevant engineering software.

· Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Hey, it’s engineering.

· Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

· Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, including in-person, hybrid, and/or remotely.

· High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

· Driver's License, ability to travel and commute.

· Accept a background check.

· Authorized to work in the United States.

· Proficient in professional and technical English.

Preferred/Bonus Qualifications

· Experience with sustainable and green building practices, energy modeling

· Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

· Project Management Professional (PMP)

· LEED AP

· Experience with various building types (mission critical, concrete/steel, municipal, etc.)

· Use of project management techniques, methods, and tools

· PSMJ or similar AE industry training

· Familiarity with CSI/AIA specifications and related software

· Familiarity with RS Means construction cost estimates and related software

· Familiarity with contracts and project risk management

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $130,000 to $180,000, depending on experience, skill, reputation, and existing client relationships.
