Gym and Programs Manager
High Altitude Truckee is looking for a Gym & Programs Manager to join our managing team. This is a full time, salary position. We are seeking an outgoing and experienced manager to complete our managing team overseeing daily operations of the facility, managing gym staff, programs and events. Our ideal candidate will want to create a positive and fun gym experience for members and patrons, climbers, programs and events.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: training, employee scheduling, troubleshooting and problem solving, customer service and retention, managing sales, enforcing policies and procedures, overseeing risk management practices, managing safety in the climbing gym, managing day to day operations of the front desk staff and coaching staff, managing sales/inquiries/roster of Team High Altitude Fitness, events, clinics and private climbing lessons.
The Gym and Programs Manager will be expected to collaborate with the General Manager and Owners. This position will require varied hours of a minimum of 40 hours per week, Sunday-Thursday.
Must be available weeknights and weekends. The Gym and Programs Manager hours are a split of approximately 20 hours per week as gym manager and 20 hours per week coaching/programs.
1. Essential Functions:
- Train, Manage, and Lead Employees
- Manage daily staffing and mentor staff
- Implement systems, policies and procedures directly related to operations
- Plan and conduct ongoing training and development programs for staff
- Prepare written materials to educate and train staff and to assist with patron orientation
- Communicate regularly with management and staff about important issues, program needs and evolving policies and procedures
- Delegate work to appropriate employees.
2. Administration
- Oversee membership issues, member profiles, membership sales
- Interface professionally and positively with vendors regarding scheduled preventative maintenance and needed repairs.
- Maintain accurate service records
- Customer service and retention
3. Instruction and Outreach
- Provide Fitness Center orientations for patrons at regular intervals and varied times throughout the year, with emphasis on new members
- Manage Team Enrollments: memberships, enrollments, staffing, coordinating.
- Manage Climbing Events: memberships, enrollments, staffing, coordinating.
- Manage coaches schedules, USAC memberships, Safe Sport compliance and CPR certifications
- Manage and schedule clinics, lessons, and private lessons
- Mentor coaching staff
- Create and manage curriculum
- Parent/Climber/Coach/USAC communication, manage USAC memberships
- Communicate with owners and managers about clubs and curriculum
- Attend USAC competitions for local and divisional/regional competions
4. Technical:
- Oversee routine equipment maintenance and cleaning and train others to assist
5. Other
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
Qualifications: - bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- Strong computer skills required with MS Office software and basic website capabilities
- Certification by American Red Cross in Adult CPR and First Aid required within one month of hire
- Must be a self-starter and demonstrate initiative when unsupervised
- Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills. Must work well as part of a team and be able to communicate professionally with athletes, coaches, parents, and gym leadership.
- Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of staff, members and visitors on a daily basis.
- Highly Experienced Climber
- Must have a demonstrated passion for climbing and fitness on a personal basis.
- Preferably 3+ years working with youth in a coaching capacity and one year of management or supervisory experience in a climbing gym, fitness center, or related program.
- Open availability to meet facility needs and special events as needed.
- Ability to embody High Altitude Fitness core values and manage desired cultures within youth teams.
- Desire and ability to lead clinics, groups and events and private lessons.
Additional Experience:
Active membership with USAC as a Level 2 Coach preferred but not required
Understands USAC policies and procedures
Experience with USAC competitions
Maintain a current CPR & First Aid certification
4+ years of climbing experience
Ability to climb V6 and 5.12 preferred but not required
Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience. Salary compensation could range from $66,500-$70k per year depending on experience. Full time exempt position with PTO, medical benefits, ski pass benefits, industry/gym benefits and perks. Hours may include working events, weekends, after hours or project completion.
