Seeking home cook for family of three, including teenage boy with severe autism and epilepsy. Some days we would be providing meals for in-home caretakers and therapists as well.
The number of hours needed is approx 30 per week (ranging from 25-35). The schedule would be variable and include hours between 7:30am-5:30pm on six days of the week. One day off, typically Saturday. In addition to the cooking and serving of food, we would like assistance with grocery shopping and online orders as well as some light housekeeping such as laundry, daily tidying, and dusting.
We need extreme reliability with attendance and punctuality. Absences are expected to be zero or extremely rare. We are seeking a LONG TERM employee for a MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS. Please carefully consider your commitment to this position with the scheduling requirements and number of hours available before applying.
We have strong preferences in the design of menus and sourcing healthy/organic ingredients, but can provide a lot of information and guidance including specific recipes and specialty cookbooks as needed at the start. We enjoy a variety of cuisines, particularly American, French, British, and Mediterranean, also some Italian, Mexican, Indian, and Asian. We eat animal proteins, seafood, and love a good sauce!
We would prefer someone who can create healthy delicious dishes that are aligned with various dietary preferences, which may change over time, including gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, paleo, low carb, high protein, low fodmaps, etc. Knowledge of old-school nutritional traditions (or capacity to learn) would be highly valued, such as sourdough bread, yogurt and other fermented foods and drinks, sprouted beans and grains, bone broths, offal, etc. We know all of this and can teach you, but having existing knowledge would be of benefit as we are looking to move away from our attention on this. Also preferred is the ability to document and organize family recipes, and have skills with systems and organization in general to streamline our procuring and minimize food waste.
The ideal candidate would be a natural caretaker and homemaker with a big heart, lots of warmth, and a love of serving others. Would prefer someone with introverted personality who does not need to socialize or have the attention/feedback of others. If you are good at noticing and anticipating the things that would help us out, getting those tasks accomplished at a high level while being low maintenance, unobtrusive and respecting our privacy, this would be a great match.
If you are seeking a reliable long-term position in a pleasant home atmosphere where you will be immersed in all things food, health, household organizing, and be of service to a unique family, then we look forward to meeting you!
