Join us, and BUILD YOUR WORLD.A Brief Summary of This Position:Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Manufacturing Engineer position in the Irrigation division. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be responsible for the manufacturing processes and methods of production of various division products. The position requires the ability to plan and apply the practices of manufacturing; to research and develop the tools, processes, machines, and equipment; and to integrate the facilities and systems for producing quality products with optimal expenditure and an emphasis on continuous improvement and cost reduction.Essential Functions:Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.

Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.

Analyzes test data and reports to determine of design meets functional and performance specifications.

Develops and writes equipment specifications, performance requirements, cost analysis, and proposal for integrating machinery and equipment into manufacturing process.

Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.

Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

Participates in an on-going cost reduction program.

Develops and coordinates material handling methods and devices to facilitate the processing of both finished products and raw materials.

Provide and maintain Quality Assurance programs in the division to reduce scrap and rejects.

This position reports into Manager of Process Engineering and has no direct reports and no indirect reports

This role may require up to 30% travel as the incumbent will also support our McCook, NE production facility.

Other Important Details about the Role:Provide and obtain sources of and cost estimates for various farm-out activities as required.

Assist in further development of T.P.M., P.M., and S.P.E. (Set-Up Reduction).

Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.

Tests newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specifications.

Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.

Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.

Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology/Manufacturing/Mechanical/Electro-Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience

Thorough understanding of fabrication and welding procedures, process including QA requirements and methods

Proven history or problem solving in an environment involving welding, press working, CNC machining, tooling, saws, and material handling robots.

Experience with AutoCad, Creo, Solidworks

Strong mathematical skills including statistics, work measurement

Advanced skills in using Microsoft Suite including Access

Manufacturing QAD: experience with routing, bills of material, cost, items, and inventory

Strong oral and written communication skills to clearly and concisely present information to management

Work effectively alone and as a member of a team within various functional areas of the division

Demonstrated accuracy in working with information in a fast-paced environment

Ability to analyze, develop, evaluate and weigh alternatives, as well as coordinate the implementation of the solution

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:Experience working with Lean principles, utilizing and applying for, 5 S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Six Sigma

5 years of experience within Valmont Irrigation or equivalent experience in similar industry

PE Certification

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment.
