The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s International Quilt Museum seeks Head Curator of Exhibitions in Lincoln, NE.

The Head Curator of Exhibitions is responsible for planning, designing, and producing all exhibitions held at the International Quilt Museum. Duties include: developing themes for exhibitions; coordinating exhibition activities and preparations; developing master schedules for exhibitions and coordinate budget/purchasing records for each exhibition; complete research on artifacts for selected exhibitions and select artifacts for selected exhibitions in collaboration with team members, insuring exhibitions represent all facets of the quilt industry, nationally as well as globally; serving as liaison to guest exhibition curators and/or internal curators to ensure timely planning/production of exhibitions; coordinate the design and production of all gallery signage and exhibition publications, and providing content for the development of online publications; oversee all installation and de-installation; overseeing label preparation, essays and catalogue entries for selected exhibitions and publications; supervising exhibitions assistants, graduate assistants, student workers, interns, and volunteers assigned to assist in exhibition preparation and installation; assisting communications coordinator in promoting exhibitions and providing information for press releases; preparing or overseeing lectures and talks related to selected exhibitions for docents and volunteers, tour groups, UNL classes, and as part of the public program series for the general Quilt Museum audience, as needed; developing annual budgets and coordinating budget reporting; collaborating with colleagues, advisory board, and University administration to develop long range plans for the Quilt Museum’s future growth; overseeing the maintenance of all exhibition records; collaborate with colleagues to prepare in-formation as needed for grant applications to secure funding for exhibitions and publications from foundations, state, and federal funding agencies; and other duties as assigned.

Education: Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field (or foreign equivalent).

Requirements: Two (2) years of experience in the job offered or related. Other special requirements include: two (2) years of experience designing and curating exhibition themes; two (2) years of experience adhering to professional museum principles, practices, and procedures; two (2) years of experience building and designing exhibition mounts, including operating necessary machinery and tools; and two (2) years of experience using graphic design software, 3D graphic design software, video production software, and adhering to graphic design production parameters.

In lieu of a Master’s degree and two years of experience, employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Fine Arts, Art History, Museum Studies, or closely related field plus five (5) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related position.
