Job Summary: Chief Deputy County Attorney is assigned to civil matters concerning Madison County and providing legal services to County governmental agencies. Assignment to a particular area of service will to some degree be based upon the individual’s training, experience, and specialization. Experience in land use, planning, water law, employment law, contracts, and general civil litigation is desired. These duties are the essential functions and are not all-inclusive of all duties that the incumbent performs.Job ResponsibilitiesProvide legal services and advise to county governmental departments, agencies, and boards; represent the county in civil litigation; review ordinances; review contracts; and, research legal issues. Performs other legal services as needed.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of: Montana Code Annotated Montana Rules of Civil Procedure Montana Rules of Evidence Madison County Ordinances Madison County Subdivision Regulations Legal research Legal writing Ability to: Present statements of fact, law, and argument clearly and logically in written and oral form Work cooperatively with, local government boards, officials and commissioners Draft ordinances, contracts, resolutions, and legal instruments Operate office machines, computer systems and related software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and online case file system (KARPEL Solutions). Analyze and interpret legal documents Conduct legal research Follow written and verbal instructions Establish effective working relationships with Judges, attorneys, fellow employees, county agencies, and citizensPhysical RequirementsDuties are generally performed in an office and courtroom environment Must be able to occasionally move or lift documents and materials weighing up to thirty (35) pounds.Education RequirementsGraduation from an accredited School of Law. Licensed to practice law in Montana.
