Upbeat, dynamic law firm with offices in Missoula and Bozeman, Montana seeks a paralegal/legal assistant.

The paralegal is responsible for assisting attorneys and other paralegals in handling claims and litigation by providing services such as document preparation and review; file management; communication with clients and other parties; research; investigation; fact checking; assistance in the discovery process; and trial support.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Draft and edit legal documents such as demands, complaints, motions, notices, orders, affidavits, exhibits, discovery, and statements of damages.

Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provide findings or analysis to attorneys.

File court documents according to judicial procedures.

Request and review records.

Download, organize, store, update and retrieve case file documents, such as medical records, correspondence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, and other items.

Communicate in writing and verbally with attorneys, clients, and medical providers, insurance companies, and experts regarding cases.

Establish and maintain cordial and effective relationships with a wide variety of individuals.

Perform potential client intakes.

Complete initial case setup.

Perform subrogation analysis and draft subrogation correspondence.

Calculate provider and client dispersals.

Create and maintain client spreadsheets for tracking case details.

Perform scheduling and calendaring to coordinate and track meetings and deadlines.

Record and submit billable hours for cases.

Answer the phone and respond to inquiries or redirect calls.

Provide reception for in-office visitors.

Participate in firm meetings as requested.

Perform other related duties including assisting others.

Qualifications:

Highly proficient writing and editing skills.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Effective time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Service minded with great teamwork.

Proficient with internet research and use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and related software.

Ability to function well in a fast-paced and stressful environment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.

Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Prior paralegal or related professional experience helpful, but not mandatory.

Ability to work in our office in Missoula or Bozeman preferred.

Physical Requirements:Ability to work from a desk and work on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
