1889 is a locally owned steakhouse located in downtown Missoula, Montana. We are looking for an experienced FOH manager to join our team. Since our grand opening in July of 2019 we have established ourselves as a restaurant that offers classic steakhouse fare with modern touches that elevate the quality of both our food and level of service. Our team takes pride in the reputation we have established in the community. The Assistant Manager will continue the customer experience that has been cultivated while initiating new ideas to enhance the menu and the 1889 brand.

The Assistant Manager/Bar Manager will assist the General Manager in overseeing the staff during dinner service and providing direction to the front-of-house team in the daily operations of the restaurant. Daily operations consist of both regular evening dinner service and the management and execution of any special events held on the premises.

This position will attract and retain staff, maintain a cooperative relationship with team members, and optimize staff productivity through training and mentoring. Another main responsibility will be to manage the cocktail and beer program and initiate collaboration with the bartending staff in the development of new cocktails. Additional assistance with the development of any special menus for events, as well as making adjustments to all menus to remain competitive and current, while maintaining the restaurant brand.

Additionally, the Assistant Manager will help establish, execute, and maintain the service and standards for the guest experience. The successful candidate will ensure the team delivers high-quality hospitality. The candidate should have experience and knowledge in beer, wine and craft cocktails, as well as a minimum of three years of restaurant management experience, preferably in fine dining.

Qualifications & Responsibilities:

Managing daily operations, inventory, and finances of the business

Opening and closing the restaurant and providing daily written recaps

Ensuring prompt and quality of service to guests

Leads, coaches, and mentors team members

Drives employee development through education on steps of service and product knowledge training

Implements hygiene policies and examining equipment and front of house departments for cleanliness

Ensures compliance with health, sanitation, liquor, safety, and employment regulations by clearly communicating and

reinforcing standards and procedures to all employees

Implement necessary changes within front of house setup and processes to improve and ensure food and beverage

quality, consistency, safety, sanitation, and overall FOH efficiency

Develop process implementation, including SOPs and training materials, to ensure product knowledge, skill refinement,

and consistent service execution

Obtain feedback on food and service quality, and handling guest problems and complaints

Work with FOH leaders and HR/Recruitment to proactively communicate staffing needs and gaps as well as

opportunities to develop current team members through our career development path

Respond rapidly to highly complex challenges where solutions may not be obvious

High integrity and openness

Ability to work a flexible schedule as determined by business needs

Working knowledge of food costs, labor costs, sales PMIX and effectiveness in operating a restaurant

3+ years of management experience in a high-volume, full service restaurant.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $42,000 - $50,000 per year (DOE)
