Job Overview
The Lead Architectural Metal Finisher is responsible for the final stages of metal fabrication, ensuring that metal surfaces are properly prepared, chemically patinated, and coated to meet architectural standards. This role involves working with various metals, such as but not limited to carbon steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, and stainless steel, to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional qualities. The Lead Finisher is responsible for working with the shop manager to ensure that all finishing projects are completed to the standards of Paragon Metal Fabrication while maintaining schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Surface Preparation: Clean, degrease, and occasionally sandblast metal surfaces to prepare them for finishing.
Finishing Techniques: Apply various finishing techniques, such as grinding, blending, sanding, and patina, to achieve the desired finish on metal surfaces.
Coating Application: Apply protective coatings to metal surfaces to prevent corrosion and enhance durability.
Inspection: Inspect finished metal parts to ensure they meet the required specifications and quality standards.
Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve any issues that arise during the finishing process.
Maintenance: Maintain equipment and tools in good working order. Report equipment discrepancies to immediate supervisor and maintain respective inventory of consumables.
Safety Compliance: Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with metal and chemicals. Maintain a clean finishing booth.
Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of all finishing processes and materials used.
Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the activities of the finish team.
Collaboration: Communicate with other team members to ensure that finishing requirements are met.
Assist: Occasionally help lift product around shop or onto installation vehicles, wrap/protect product for transportation, procure consumables, etc…
Independence: Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the newest techniques, finish materials, and methods of metal finishing.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in metal finishing or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in metal finishing, polishing, or a related field is required.
Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and motivate a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to train people as needed to progress in their roles within the company.
Skills: Strong attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work in physically demanding environments and perform tasks that require strength and dexterity.
