Position: Cook, Full Time (Community Kitchen)

This is a great opportunity for a culinary artist who is looking for a more family friendly schedule that does not require evenings or weekends or who is looking to leave behind the stresses of a traditional restaurant environment.

Organization Overview:

The Livingston Food Resource Center (LFRC) is an innovative, community-driven food pantry and community kitchen located in downtown Livingston. The LFRC distributes nutritious food to an average of more than 700 individuals, or approximately 10% of Livingston's population, every month. In addition to making nutritious, locally sourced food available to all, our programs are designed to help people living in poverty lead healthier, more productive lives. The LFRC also operates the Livingston Community Bakery, which sells delicious baked goods to the public while providing fresh, organic whole-wheat bread to our and other Montana food pantries.

Position Overview:

The LFRC Community Kitchen is seeking a cook to join our team on a full-time basis. The cooks at the Community Kitchen are essential to LFRC’s mission of providing healthy, delicious, locally sourced food for our programs:

- Food Pantry: provides scratch made soups, pasta sauces, peanut butter, jam, hummus and various innovations as an alternative to the highly processed foods offered at traditional food pantries.

- Supper Club: provides 5 nutritious meals a week to an average of 65 members of our community, who can no longer cook for themselves.

- Summer Lunch: provides lunch, Monday through Friday, throughout the summer to children who rely on the free and reduced lunch program during the school year.

- Vegetable Processing: provides hundreds of pounds of frozen vegetables, purchased from local farmers, to food pantry clients throughout the winter.

- Holiday Meal Kits: provides scratch made cranberry sauce, gravy, chicken stock and local green beans to over 400 Thanksgiving meal kits.

The ideal candidate will take great pride in their work, have the ability to multitask and work well with others, and be able to perform all functions relating to producing high-quality prepared foods in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Follow large-batch production recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients

-Bake, grill, steam, and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods

-Participate in recipe testing and creation

-Uphold food safety and sanitation standards

-Maintain a clean kitchen and work area that adheres to health and safety standards

-Monitor stock and assist with ordering on a regular basis

-Help unload, check in and put away deliveries

Skills and Qualifications:

-Minimum 1-year experience in a commercial kitchen or bakery

-Willingness to obtain Servsafe Certificate

-Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards in food preparation

-Ability to follow recipes and to correctly prepare dishes to meet dietary requirements of at risk patrons

-Ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks accurately and safely

-Ability to work with a sense of urgency to meet timelines and goals

-Ability to work independently as well as within a team

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

-Able to lift up to 50 pounds on regular basis

-Able to push and pull carts weighing up to >100 pounds

-Able to stand in one place for hours at a time

-Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, such as knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting, and dicing for extended periods of time

Compensation:

This is a full-time position, 32 to 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday from 9am until 5pm.

Compensation is negotiable, starting between $18 and $20 an hour, based on experience.

Full Time Benefits:

2 weeks Paid Vacation, available after a 90 day trial period

2 weeks paid Sick Leave, annually
