Summary:The Slitter Operator is responsible for slitting and/or embossing line set up’s and operating the slitter line.Essential Job Functions:Responsible for set-ups and quality of product producedCheck schedule and maintain production and coil usage reportsResponsible for proper operation of all equipment in slitting departmentInsures calipers are set at zero before measurements takenSet up machine to slit widths and tolerances as requiredResponsible for proper maintenance of knives and spacers as necessary to maintain the quality of the end productDetermines, directs and performs any knife adjustments or changesFeed metal through knives and other in-line equipment to recoiler.Operate machine, controlling tension and speed to slit master coil into specified widths and tolerancesAdjust edge guides and loop to maintain proper recoilCheck material for finish burrs and size within specified tolerancesResponsible for the quality of the end products as specified by the customer and required by supervisionVisually observe quality product being slit and recoiledOperate upender, downender, hoists,  coil cart and miscellaneous hand toolsMaintain records pertinent to jobAssist maintenance personnel during breakdown or overhaul as directedGrease and oil machinery when necessary and keeps tooling items in proper place.Inspects coils and identifies and reports defectsReads and interprets production schedulesVerifies core lengthOperates manual or electric shears to trim steel coilsInputs and retrieves information from the AS/400 main frameReads and accurately records coil weights, order numbers, etc.Measures OD of coils using a calibrated ruleOther Duties and Responsibilities:Operates manual or electric shears to trim steel coilsOperates core cutting equipmentIdentifies coils by applying correct tagsOperate overhead cranes, coil cart, various hand tools to set up slitter, caliper, scales and miscellaneous hand tools.Actively participates in adhering to plant housekeeping requirements by picking up trash, sweeping work areas, and returning materials and equipment to their proper locationsUnderstands and utilizes FIFO procedures in connection with paints, laminates and other materialsPlaces scrap metal and packaging materials into trash receptaclesAdheres to all safety and work rulesAdheres to and follows job specific SOPsAssists and trains new employeesMaintains regular and on-time attendanceReads and comprehends instructions regarding new equipment, equipment changes and/or procedural changesPerforms miscellaneous assignments as directedWalk and stand for extended period of time to perform job functionVisual capacity to read and record coil weights, order numbers, etcCritical Demands:Hand, eye and feet coordination to operate fork trucksSquat, kneel or stoop frequently to perform job dutiesReach or extend forward for long periods of time to perform job dutiesAbility to read and comprehend written materials such as schedules, SOPs, work rules, etc.Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructionsFrequently lift and carry up to 50 poundsWalk or stand for extended periods of timeStamina to work in extreme temperaturesAscend and descend stairsDexterity to operate computers in order to enter or retrieve informationCommunicate verbally or in writing with othersTools and Equipment Used:Fork trucks, propane and electricUpendersJib craneVarious small hand toolsPower sawCore cutterShears and knivesCoil grabbersPersonal protective equipmentComputersWork Environment:Periodic temperature extremes, including  temperatures over 90 degreesConcrete or asphalt floorsPossible exposure to high levels of noisePossible exposure to dustPeriodic exposure to fumes from paints and chemicals used in coating processes
