Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Performs a variety of tasks involved with the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities, and equipment. Responsibilities Installs, modifies, repairs, loads and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment. Performs tasks including estimating material requirements, pipe, fittings, and fixtures in the sizes, types, or lengths needed; and marking spots for openings through which pipes are to pass or in which equipment will be installed. Work involves installing, cause of faulty equipment and making repairs on a variety of systems that provide for heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering and circulating. Loads/unloads vehicle, assuring hauling capacity is not exceeded; assures that cargo is protected from weather and secured to prevent falling. Transports personnel, materials, equipment, trash, and water throughout the project, and on public roads. Drives trucks capable of carrying 1/2 to 10 tons, with a gross vehicle weight of 70,000 pounds. Performs prescribed minor vehicle preventative maintenance. Performs water and waste water sampling on drinking water and waste water treatment systems. Operates various types of heavy equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform some tasks in maintenance and repair such as, plumbing, and mechanical components, and equipment systems. I work under the supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Light physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 20 pounds and the occasional handling of objects weighing over 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo. Making couplings between vehicle and towed equipment requires moderate physical effort in that heavy chains, bars, hooks, etc. must be lifted and properly secured. Requirements for standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Requires considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, and climbing stairways and ladders. Light -to-mode rate effort is used to turn valves and controls. Works in stretched, cramped and awkward positions. Considerable standing while working on ladders or scaffolds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather. Is exposed to caustic and dangerous chemicals. Is exposed to infections or diseases such as typhoid, paratyphoid, and dysentery while cleaning sewage disposal plant equipment or shoveling sludge. The presence of gases and fumes such as methane, chlorine, and carbon monoxide requires the use of safety equipment such as gas mask or respirators. Is exposed to danger of falling into open tanks and manholes, contact with running motors, pumps, and machinery. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from accidents. Subject to possible injury from vehicle accident. Works in cramped quarters inside and outside; exposed to mud and water; dirty, dusty and greasy conditions and injury from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
