Together, we help execute a strategy that enables Ameren to deliver superior long-term value to customers, shareholders and the environment.About The PositionThe Paralegal I perform routine law-related tasks under the direction of the Company's Attorneys. Provides support to the Ameren Legal Department with regards to researching legal matters, drafting, and filing legal documents, preparing reports, coordinating discovery responses, and documenting requests. Uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems.Key responsibilities include:

Progress toward a competent level of expertise in assisting the Ameren Legal Department supporting one or more teams within the Department.

Serve as initial point of contact for routine legal matters.

Research and gather information for the preparation of routine function-related documents, with guidance.

Collect, review and draft legal documents of some complexity, correspondence and other materials requiring a strong level of legal terminology and document formatting knowledge.

Research and gather information for the preparation of function-related documents. Obtain and organize business and legal documents.

Monitor case schedules and deadlines.

Assist in preparing cases for hearings.

Manage proper record retention and destruction.

Assist with projects in the Legal Department, typically of a routine nature.

Assist a paralegal or attorney in the drafting and coordination of documents (such as contracts, memos, correspondence, and responses to regulatory agencies).

QualificationsAssociate degree in Paralegal Studies or relevant degree is required. 5+ years of experience as a paralegal, assistant paralegal, legal assistant, or an equivalent role in a legal environment is required. In lieu of an associate degree in Paralegal Studies or relevant degree, current enrollment in a higher education degree or Paralegal Certificate program with completion within one year of being hired is required with 7+ years of experience may be considered.In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:Proficiency with legal billing software, PACER, CaseNet, EFIS, LEXIS, Westlaw, Internet, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications required. Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills required. Ability to proactively manage deadlines, critical thinking skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, ability to communication professionally and ability to utilize technology resources to support clients and attorneys and the following Ameren competencies: Think Customer, Inspire and Engage, Foster Innovation, Drive Results, Champion Learning, Build Trust, and Be StrategicAdditional InformationAmeren’s selection process includes a series of interviews and may include a leadership assessment process.
