Job SummaryResponsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment and supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures and Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies. Stores, rotates and ensures all instruments and supplies are correctly labeled. Essential Functions

Cleans soiled instruments and equipment utilizing the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE). Inspects and tests instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning. Utilizes the insulation tester, leak tester (flex scopes) and other mechanical/digital validation tools to ensures that proper sterilization occurs.

Strive for zero defects.

Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies. May provide mentoring and work direction to other Sterile Processing staff.

Ensures proper processing of equipment, instruments and supplies, including any vendor trays by prioritizing the work load to correspond with medical/surgical floor needs, surgical case loads and physician requirements.

Accurately differentiates between instruments functionality and its specialty. Monitors performance of sterilizers, sonic, utensil washers and other equipment and fills out repair requisitions as necessary.

In the absence of team leader and/or supervisor, may be responsible for functioning in a lead role.

Participates in quality monitoring activities and utilizes problem-solving techniques with the aid of Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards and established standard of work.

Ensures all customer area requests are handled in an efficient, timely, and professional manner. Demonstrates proficiency in assembling highest complexity trays such as implant trays and ambulatory clinic tray turn-around process. May be called upon to perform duties as a quality tech or implant specialist. Answer, interpret and fill phone requests and other issues according to departmental standards. Established experience in precepting and competency validation. Exceptionally low error rate and high productivity rate.

Qualifications

Required High School Diploma or equivalent

2 years of relevant experience sterile processing technician experience or related sterile processing Required

CRT-Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) - CBSPD Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution Upon Hire required Or

CRT-Registered Central Services Technician, Certified (CRCST) - IAHCSMM International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Upon Hire required And

CRT-At least one License and/or Certification in area of specialty - UNKNOWN Unknown Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) 1 1/2 Yrs required
