Job SummaryPerforms routine and complex laboratory procedures involving the testing, preparation, and reporting of patient samples. Plans and oversees employee scheduling to ensure the effective operation of the section. This may include the coordination of the phlebotomy schedule and the development of quality service initiatives. Will evaluate and implement policies, procedures, schedules, instrumentation that will enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and standardization of the section(s). Assists management with employee performance review, competency evaluations and training. Ensures all regulatory and compliance requirements are met. Essential Functions

Performs lab tests and analyzes specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes and results.

Responsible for new test validation and all associated records.

Organizes, directs, and oversees daily activities, establishes work flow pattern, assists in establishing work performance standards and establishes work priorities ensuring regulatory requirements are met. Adjusts staffing assignments to work flow.

Writes/recommends/assists with implementation of department policies and procedures.

Participates in ongoing performance monitoring and identifies opportunities to improve staff performance. Evaluates performance of departmental staff, submits input about work performance and supplies documentation for disciplinary action.

Maintains department and equipment in a condition to promote efficiency, quality control, and safety to staff. Develops and monitors preventative maintenance program and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate people. Completes proficiency testing and quality control evaluations and analysis for site(s) for which they are responsible.

Maintains inventory of materials, forms and supplies according to department standards. Makes recommendations for capital equipment, as needed.

Assesses the educational needs of patients, staff, and other members of the health care team and develops implements, evaluates and revises educational in-services / programs to meet those needs. Oversees the training of students and new staff. Writes yearly competency test for staff.

Qualifications

Required Bachelor's Degree in Science, Medical Technology or related field (excludes Toxicology Department)

Required Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology or health related field (Toxicology Department only)

5 years of relevant experience Related work experience Required

Recent experience with Toxicology instrumentation (Toxicology Department only) Preferred

CRT-Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology Excludes Toxicology required Or

CRT-Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology required Or

CRT-Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - NCA National Certification Agency Excludes Toxicology required Or

CRT-Diplomate in Laboratory Management (DLM) - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology Excludes Toxicology required Or
