OverviewDo you want to work outdoors and help to protect our environment? This Park Attendant position assist with the care and maintenance of the City's conservation lands and equipment. Resumes will not be reviewed. All details should be entered on the application. Essential Functions

Implement restoration of native plant communities and wildlife habitats on conservation lands, including plant material collection, greenhouse work, seeding, planting and site maintenance.

Implement invasive plant species control using chemical and mechanical methods (herbicide application, hand pulling, cutting, chipping, etc.).

Maintain recreational infrastructure and trails on conservation lands using light equipment, vehicles, and hand tools.

Maintain vegetation, signage, and infrastructure associated with conservation lands trails and trailheads.

Perform light forestry work to improve health and control woody invasive species and maintain appropriate clearance along trail corridors.

Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of small equipment and tools.

Assist with other Conservation Lands Management projects and tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of plant propagation, trees planting, and/or general landscaping maintenance.

Knowledge of native and invasive plant species for western Montana and the northern Rocky Mountain ecoregion.

Knowledge of recreation management, trail work, and/or general parkland and landscape maintenance.

Knowledge of best management practices around trail construction in western Montana and the northern Rocky Mountain ecoregion.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of simple construction and maintenance projects, including the use of equipment, materials, and techniques.

Skill in following oral and written instructions, while working independently with minimum supervision.

Ability to operate small power equipment, hand tools, light equipment, and vehicles in a safe and effective manner.

Ability to learn City and departmental policies, procedures, and practices.

Ability to learn Missoula’s open space, parks, and urban forestry systems; Montana’s native plants, invasive weeds, and animals.

Working Conditions:

Positions require the ability to lift 50 lbs. or less.

Duties are frequently performed under conditions where noise, heat, dampness or cold are unavoidable.

Work environment may involve occasional exposure to uneven and steep terrain, occupational hazards, biohazards, and physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

Work will involve the safe application of chemical herbicides to control invasive plant species.

Qualifications and Additional Application Materials

Any combination of training and experience in construction, landscaping, natural resource management, trails maintenance, facility maintenance or another relevant field.

Must be of legal age to perform the duties of the position.

Must have a valid Montana driver’s license with a verified acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
