Type of Work (All training provided): Truck Driving (M-F Regional), Property Management/Maintenance
Compensation: Room & Board, modest salary during training TBD
Location: Rural Anderson County KS
Backstory: Since I was young, all I ever wanted was to live in the country, away from crowds, and to make a good living independently. It took a while, but I succeeded and life is good. I have a trucking business, and recently added short-term rentals. With land, buildings and equipment, there is always interesting, challenging work to do.
I’m looking for a person or two interested in the same kind of life. You don’t have to have any specific experience. You will shadow me, assist in everything I do, and learn everything I know. Personally, I have an old west mindset. This is how a person learned a trade in frontier days. The blacksmith feed you and let you sleep in the back room while you trained. You’ll be a lot more comfortable than that. Eventually the apprentice took over for him. It worked then. We’ll see how it works now.
You will learn truck driving (OJT plus required schooling), truck maintenance, the trucking business A-Z. Also, fixing things, building things and solving problems. Everything from basic handyman jobs to major renovations. Once fully trained to truck, you will drive M-F for two weeks, and the third week will be tending to things on the ranch, where the learning never stops.
It’s important that you have a mind for mechanical things. You don't need experience, but must have the ability to learn and understand how machines work, how to work with tools and equipment. Truck driving requires a certain amount of confidence. The work also requires some heavy lifting, working outside in the heat and cold, climbing stairs and ladders. You have to have a good driving record and no drug or alcohol violations.
Housing initially will be in the form of the extra rooms in a clean, quiet country home with myself and two ladies. They can potentially assist with pet and childcare, depending on your situation. With your assistance, we will build tiny homes so everyone has their own four walls. For now there is room to spread out and plenty of privacy. This is a good opportunity for someone who lacks traditional family or community support, who works hard but can’t get ahead. You don't need a car. It’s a job that is more like an adoption. Hopefully you’ll also have an interest in homestead life, gardening, raising chickens, etc. We’re far from town and like it that way.
Contact me if you’re interested. Include email, phone and some background.
