Applicants with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in the biological sciences and accompanying research experience in the fields of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, etc. are encouraged to apply. The Research Scientist will conduct high impact research in basic/translational science with special emphasis on key regulatory mechanisms of placental development as it pertains to genomic anomalies, recurrent pregnancy loss, preterm birth, toxicant exposures, etc. that impact maternal and fetal health outcomes. The work of the Research Scientist will be carried out in the context of advancing the basic/translational research goals of the Varberg lab at the Children's Mercy Research Institute (CMRI). Primary model organisms leveraged in the Varberg lab include human stem cell models and genetically modified rat models. The Research Scientist will conduct bench research, oversee animal (rat) experimentation, and serve as a leader, with training responsibilities, for other lab personnel. Experience with rodent handling and/or cell culture techniques is preferred, but not required. The individual will work under the supervision of the principal investigator, but with independent responsibilities in experimentation, scientific troubleshooting, and manuscript preparation. Conduct original laboratory research in the general areas of molecular biology and developmental biology, with a focus on lung development, growth, injury and repair.

Reporting of results.

Ordering supplies/equipment, assist research technicians with general lab maintenance.

Qualifications

Ph.D. Must have obtained a Ph.D. and/or MD or related doctoral level degree in a relevant discipline. and 3-5 years experience Relevant bench/wet lab research experience in the fields of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, etc.

Starting PayOur pay ranges are market competitive.
